Can anybody recommend a company(s) that buys existing tanning salons besides UltraTan?

Not many people are purchasing salons. Best bet is to find a broker or post on craigslist. Seems most salons are closing before they sell

There aren't "companies" per se.

But in any market, there are prospective buyers.

Start with the salons in your town and the next several towns that would find your salon to be a good location for a next spot for them (e.g. not too close, not too far). Contact them, indicate you may be selling, ask if they are interested.

Can also contact a business broker to do this for you (they will take a percentage of the sale, then again, they may be better at it than you can be).

Can list on Craigslist or in paper. Also there are sites for salons and/or businesses for sale that you might look into.

If you have any customers who have ever expressed a lot of interest in your business, in the tanning industry - could approach them.

Thanks, SunSally! I already have it posted on Craigslist and I've told several of my customers about it. I'm not really interested in listing it with a real estate agent. I've also sent emails out to several tanning salons in the Wilmington area (neighboring town) and never heard back from any of them. So, we'll see what happens. One of my customers told me that UltraTan bought her friend's salon in SC so I contacted them and they will not return my calls. kk

It would be easier to sell on your own than wait or hope for Ultra Tan/Zoom Tan. They do not buy 'distressed' situations (not saying yours is, but since you are contemplating...), generally they are looking for salons operating in the black that are in in good demographics and need very little out cash to bring into the fold....true turn-key...there is a criteria list that needs to be meet. Being accepted is as difficult as being approved for a profitable franchise system. In some cases they would just open new rather than buy..to them it may be less out of pocket

Thanks for the info Black Sun!! I'm definitely in a great locale. We're pretty much the only salon in town! Great customer base all year long. I'm not going to hold my breath for Ultra Tan/Zoom Tan :) kk
