Thumbs up Want to cut your risk of death in half?

A new study from Germany showed that individuals in the lowest two quartiles, i.e., 19.0/33.3 nmol/L (7.6/13.3 ng/ml) had twice the risk of "all cause" death and 2.22 times the risk for death from cardiovascular causes as compared to individuals in the highest quartile of vitamin D levels, i.e., 71.0 nmol/L (28.4 ng/ml).

WOW!

And imagine what the results might have been if the individuals in the highest quartile had a vitamin D level >125 nmol/L (50 ng/ml) as many experts are now recommending or >150 nmol/L (60 ng/ml) as we have long recommended in our articles!

So if you want to cur your risk of death in half the answer is simple: visit your friendly neighborhood indoor tanning salon two or three times a week and attain/maintain a vitamin D (25-OH-D) level of at least 71 nmol/L (28.4 ng/ml). And if you are serious about reducing your risk of death, attain/maintain a vitamin D level of 125/150 nmol/L (50/60 ng/ml) year-round.

[Note: I find it infuriating that the so called "medical experts" on TV that are talking about this article all say to continue using a sunscreen and avoid the sun because of the risk of skin cancer. What they are saying is that we should ignore the 300 preventable premature deaths each year from underexposure to UVR in favor of preventing 1 premature death each year due to overexposure to UVR. What a bunch of hypocritical idiots!

Misleading, at the least - Don, come on. Europe is nowhere near the US - geographically speaking, or otherwise. However, the Sun (UV A and B) is the SOURCE and the BENEFACTOR of ALL LIFE ON EARTH. ~Show me a life form that survives without UV and I'll show you how it is not human - any takers?~
