Article I found in magazine
Article published in real magazine Vol. 1 Iss. 2 It goes back to the mid 1980's - back to the days when most people thought sunburn was just a inevitable part of summer: the painful precursor to a great tan. Back then, dermatologists and sunscreen manufacturers banded together to warn us about the dangers of sunburn. And when they first started talking it was a good message - one that needed to be delivered at a time when most people didn't know any better. Have you stepped back and taken a good look at what's happened since? What started out as a proper campaign in the 1980's to rein in the reckless behavior of those who thought getting too much of a good thing was ok has turned into a crazed over-reaction, with the most zealous dermatologist claiming that any and all sun exposure could be deadly. Now they're not just telling people to avoid sunburn. They pretty much want you living in a cave - wearing sunscreen while you're in there - and staying out of the sun entirely. They need to step out of the dark ages. Step back and ask yourself why dermatologists get more press about skin conditions today than cardiologists do about heart disease - North America's leading cause of death. About 60 times more North Americans die from heart disease than skin cancer. That's out of whack ! Even more distorted is this: Mother Nature's design of the human body intends for us to be outdoors and to get regular sun exposure. It's the body's only true reliable and natural way to produce vitamin D - and we're just beginning to find out how important that is and how vitamin D deficient most of us are. So why are so many dermatologists still in the dark? The American Cancer Society, the Canadian Cancer Society and the vitamin D research community have all recognized that humans need some sunshine to stay healthy. Vitamin D is rare in foods. (It's supplemented into milk and otherwise only occurs naturally in fatty fish.) Further, scientific consensus in the past 12 months points to the fact that there is a worldwide vitamin D deficiency epidemic. So why not turn to the only free and universal source of vitamin D - sunshine - to put things right? The answer, unfortunately, is money. There's no money in telling people to get regular sunshine. In spite of all the evidence, dermatologists have stuck to their old-guard mantra: Get your vitamin D unnaturally from pills and practice total sun avoidance. Telling people to avoid any sun exposure isn't natural. It's throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and it isn't smart !! |

Re: Article I found in magazine
Hockey, the real magazine was put out by smart tan, it actually has 4 issues to it. You can purchase these magazines to leave in your lobby, or lobbies around town. That is the only reading material beside a binder called the positive effects of U.V. we have in our lobby. I highly recommend you get some of these and pass them around. All 4 issues are very positive for our industry, and dont really mention anything about "tanning salons" I'm sure if you contact your distributor, they have some available to you.
