It may trigger an attack, their immune system is out of wack, anything may make the body attack its self.
The big problem is the vitamin D deficiency, lack of sun exposure will cause, from cancer to bone and tooth loss, to a number of other health problem.
No sun or restricted exposure is a very bad thing.

Tell your friend to ask the doctor why. I'm not an MS expert by any means, but I would think that it has something to with what Chippp mentioned about the body attacking itself. It may also have something to do with complications from the medications they are required to take.

Aside from the auto-immune response and meds. many MS patients experience a worsening of the symptoms or episodes when overheated. For many, heat and MS are very bad. But for some heat does not seem to be a trigger. Best wishes to your friend.

I was diagnosed with MS 10 yrs ago. The only reason her doc would say to stay out of the beds is due to any meds she is on, but in the same breath, did he say to stay out of sun also? Depending on how severe her symptoms are, the heat (overheating) can worsen the symptoms. For me personally, tanning moderately is the best thing for relaxation and just overall well-being. In otherwords, I feel like CRAP when I DON'T tan.
