Rep Power: 0 | My insurance company required that a backup copy be kept outside of the Salon (my home). If I was at the Salon at closing I made a copy on a zip disc to go home with me.If I was at home, I just dial into the Salon computer (it's called Dialup Networking - part of windows) after closing and copy the backup to my home computer. That copy was put on my home hard drive & a zip disk.Fred |

Rep Power: 23 | we use paper, and cd as well as zip disk back ups. we take backups every day some times 3-4 times a day when its busy. The back ups are hidden in the salon as well as taken off the premises. We did get a computer virus from a business we had do some scanning for us they scanned some docs. and put them on disks that had a virus on it. At 6:00 pm dec 20 or close to that it was 3 years ago, the computer crashed and would not restart we could not even fix it with reinstall of windows. We could not let our clients down so we went out right away and bought a new computer they are cheap enough, and installed our software and put the back up on. All worked well.Later....We found out what disk had the virus when we tried to copy it on to the new computer. the virus scanner caught it. WE took the disks to the store we bought the new computer at and they confirmed one of the disks had the virus on it. The old computer wasn't having it virus software updated fast enought.Lesson well learned!!!!!We were up and running the next morning for our clients. !!!!!!!!!!THANK GOD FOR BACK UPS !!!!!!!!The paper back ups tell us all the clients with sessions remaining, for fast use if needed. The disk back ups keep all the data files so you can instantly reinstall and be up and running in a second.I cant stress enought to have your virus scanner up to date and to back up back up back up?What would you do if you only have paper files ????????? Any anything happened to them ???????? |

Rep Power: 23 | I'm glad you know what to do and are doing it correctly. So many people don't realize the danger of putting all their eggs in one basket. I worked in the IT field for awhile and know how important it is to keep sensitive information not only secure, but also backed up in a secondary location. At one company I worked for, too much information was put on a shared drive open to too many wandering fingers and all too often files would be tampered with.Another thing to be aware of is to password protect systems, use firewalls and have admin and user priveledges defined. At one company I worked for they had their firewalls and priveledges defined, but then were so stupid as to have all the same password for every employee. To say the least, I no longer work at such a place that is so careless.I'm sorry if you took my questions as "being nasty" but it often helps to find out what people know before blindly offering advice. I'd hate to suggest everything you already have in place for a protective measure, only to have you come back and say "been there, done that!" My questions often come in the form of information gathering, as in the post from Solid concerning problem clients. That's all, sorry for the misunderstanding.Laurie |

Rep Power: 23 | They'll probably already know when they show up, read about it on the news or in the paper. You could always post an ad in the paper if it came down to it.The ad would read "XYZ Tanning Salon burned down. I've cashed in the Insurance and headed for Tahiti... See ya!"Laurie |
