Re: Hello, anyone got a question?

So you are saying I can hook two computers to one dongle at one location, right?

Re: Hello, anyone got a question?

Right

Dongle is connect to one system ... same system as your Timer Manager if connected to.

You network the two computers together, share the data directory on the main computer, map that shared directory on the second workstation, use Helios MultiUser setup to point all data files to that mapped drive location, and within Helios within System Settings set the Timer Server setting to CLIENT, LAN, and provide the IP Address or System Name of the system with the Dongle connected.

Hope this helps ...

Re: Hello, anyone got a question?

Is there a way to verify that someone (employee most likely) is not registered twice but using the same fingerprint and different name obviously?

What file format is used for the ID, and where is it located. A simple file comparison would be able to identify this situation wouldn't it?

Re: Hello, anyone got a question?

I would think the fingerprint can only bring up one person IMO

Re: Hello, anyone got a question?

From what I understand, the fingerprint scanner does not even bring up the owners client screen. Correct me if I am wrong here.

Re: Hello, anyone got a question?

I believe 11.4 still only verifies the person is who they say they are when the client has already been selected. What I am getting at is that an employee can make up fake clients and register their fingerprint as many times as they want. This allows them to steal in a number of different ways. If the files could be compared than the chances of catching them would be much better.

Re: Hello, anyone got a question?

Helios had two different styles of FingerPrint devices.

First one was VERIFY only ... compared the FP stored within the Client record to the client that was retrieved by Name or ID.

Second one was an IDENTIFY model ... BUT ... it functionality was not reliable and Helios withdrew it from sale.

The issue related to EMPLOYEES could be safeguarded by creating an EMPLOYEE membership that could only be established by authorized management that provided the access to EMPLOYEE tans and discounts.

That is incorrect. You can not stop the employee from making up a fake client and registering their own fingerprint. Just one example of the way they can use it would be to buy a package for a high pressure bed. Then when a walk in comes in and wants to purchase a single HP session, they could take the $35.00 (or whatever the salon owner charges) and take it off of their package. Other ways would be if you run a special like the 1 day 1 dollar. I am sure you have heard of this Andy with your background in Helios. Those are just a couple off the top of my head. Helios is very lax when it comes to fixing security vulnerabilities. I was the person to inform them of their HUGE vulnerability with the fingerprint system in version 9. They supposedly fixed it in version 11, but I haven't checked it. You used to be able to pull up a client and when it was time to verify the fingerprint you could escape out and pick another client or change the client number and Helios would think it was still verifying the original client. It only took them 2 years to fix that, if they have that is.

Yeah that was a real joke. It required a purchase of the new style register, for $400.00. A classic case of Helios putting a product on the market before testing it or there other famous one of advertising features in the the new and improved software that the programmers haven't even written the code for yet.
They make a killing off the fingerprint readers. I found them on line for $75.00 and Helios sells them for $399.00 Granted they have the initial cost of the development software and the e-prom burner, but that's it.
