I just upgraded a store to the new ETS Helios Explorer version 9.4 and now the software will only run in DEMO mode. Help! I reloaded the Dongle software from Helios 9.2 but it did not work. There is no Dongle support on the version 9.4 CD. THIS SALON IS DOWN!

Loaded 9.4 on another computer with a Dongle. Worked OK. The store in question has the dongle on a different machine then the TMAX timer. I hope they didn't assume that the machine running the timer server would also have the dongle. It appears that way.

I'm correct. I made the machine that is not connected to the TMAX the Timer Server and the Copy protection worked. BUT THE TMAX WILL NOT. Version 9.4 WILL NOT allow you to do both unless the same machine is the Timer Server and is running the dongle server software.I'll bet that the Timer Server is really a Dongle Server as well! Nothing about that in the README file.Is this correct????

Michael, your assumption is correct. With the new "Timer Server" in V9.4.0 the Helios Database, Timer and Dongle must all be on the same machine. The "Timer Server" is also the "Dongle Server" this replaces the CB Server which is not longer required.A major advantage of the approach in V9.4 is that you are able to start your beds from any workstation with only one Timer Manager (TMax) but this does require that the timer be connect to the server. Okay, i am a novice here. This does have to do with Helios and DEMO mode thing. I had a tmax when I purchased this salon last year and it had some issues and continually kept shorter out multiple rooms at a time. I had no timer system for about 4 months. I finally ordered the TT40 from tan Time because they said that it had helios software compatibilty. WRONG. So anyway here I am sitting for a year with having to manually start the beds after I have already entered the time in the computer. Not fun. Heard the 9.4 was supposed to have upgrade for TT40 didn't. Now my Helios opens with DEMo only. I don't even have any timer hooked to it. How do I fix the problem?

Hi tanfourallseasonsI would hope that at this point your Dongle problem has been resolved.Helios Tech Support is definately the place to call when you have these type of crisis problems.Regarding the TT40 - Helios would be the place to confirm that a "new" timer or any other device is compatible with Helios. You could either call Tech Support or Scott in Sales.

Here it is and my dongle problem isn't fixed. Tech support said that is probably a port going bad. Even though this problem didn't start until I downloaded 9.4 I fonally broke down and called a computer technician and they said the port was fine...Everytime I start the computer it starts in DEMo mode and I have to restart, then it works fine. What a pain.

It sounds like you have something that is grabbing the printer port for a while. Since running Helios twice, I'd begin there. Make sure you are not running anything that uses the printer port (where the dongle is) in your startup folder.
Someone else can correct me, but I do not believe you need to be running the dongle server with Helios 9.4 (I'm not very familiar with 9.4, we do not use it here). If your running the CB server, try stopping it before you run Helios that first time and see if that could be your problem. You could also check for hardware conflicts on your parallel port, or it could be the mode the port is in (normal/ECC/ECP). When you get down that far, try swinging the dead chiken in the other direction that could fix it too Good luck. |
