Rep Power: 0 | Dr Mueller Onyx Hey Everyone! I have a question that I can't find any information on that maybe someone on here can help me with. I have an Onyx that is hooked up as single phase. We added a Velocity to our store and now when the Onyx, Velocity and A/C are on, I am pushing the max on my electric panel. When one more bed kicks on, then we are over the 200 Amps from our panel. It works for about a month before our "safety fuse" at the disconnect on the panel fries. I really don't want to have to make sure that my employees aren't running the velocity and the Onyx at the same time and I really don't want to get rid of either of the beds. So, I thought that some beds can be either 3 phase or single phase, so can the onyx be converted or hooked up as a 3 phase bed? If we can do that, it lowers the Amps being pulled on my electric panel and life will be good again!! LOL Anyone have any info on this? Can the onyx be a 3 phase bed? Most of the other beds on that panel are 3 phase...but the Onyx is killing me!! Any help, info or suggestions would really help!! Thanks!! Randy |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Dr Mueller Onyx Yes it can be. And it will drop it from 70 to 40 amps on #8 wire. I can't find my diagram for the conversion but it's easy to do. Call Jordan at Future Industries for the diagram. 800-346-3136 x106 |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Dr Mueller Onyx It all depends on the full load of the panel. He said it works for about a month before it blows the main fuse. This tells me that IF all the equipment on this panel is being used frequently that the load is only slightly greater than 200 amps. Dropping it by 30 amps most likely will fix the problem. I guess another question is is the Velocity 3 phase or single? If it is single you could convert it to 3 phase also if you have the room on your panel. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Dr Mueller Onyx You are correct Nate! I am actually running just under 200 Amps when everything is on. The Velocity is 3 phase, and I have 2 ergolines, a 650 and a 600, and a suncapsule supersonic that are 3 phase also. So, most of the time, I am running right around 200 Amps when various beds and the A/C are running. The problem is the Onyx. Since it is single phase right now, the minute it kicks on, my A-leg is out of balance. And that is the one the "protector fuse" at the disconnect has burned out twice, but again only after about a month....so that means it is running hot, but not so over that it immediately blows. I also looked at moving the Onyx to another leg, but it will then throw that leg over too since it is running at 69 Amps the entire time it is on. So, by converting it to 3 phase, dropping the Amps to 30, it spreads the load out over all three legs, gives me an additional 39 Amps when it is running and the chances of the panel/fuse over heating constantly is greatly lowered. Now, I realize that if the 2 ergolines, the suncapsule, the Onyx and the A/C are all on at the same time, I will still be maxing or going over the 200 Amps on the panel, but with the different session lengths and the undress/dress time, and cleaning of the units, even if everything is running at the same time...which has never happened, it will only be for a minute or two. So, the switching of the Onyx to 3 phase will allow us to at least keep that bed. I am fully aware of where the load is and I will keep my eye on everything, but that is my best option right now because I don't know about you guys, but I really don't have a spare $20K laying around to upgrade my panel...LOL And, even if I did, I don't know that keeping the Onyx would be my first choice as to where to spend the $20K!! LOL I am pretty confident that by converting the Onyx to 3 phase, my issues will be solved...or at least minimized! Thanks for all your help! I will let you know what happens!! :-) You guys have been really great and I can't tell you how much I appreciate your input!! Cheers!!! |

Rep Power: 22 | Re: Dr Mueller Onyx Onxy can be converted to 3 phase but it is not designed to be so there is some work involved and it will not be perfectly balanced when completed. Onyx draws around 60amps single phase and about 40amps 3 phase. You will gain at most 20amp depending on the leg. Also Jordan no longer works at Future so ask for Tom. |

Rep Power: 21 | Re: Dr Mueller Onyx Try to balance the Phases move circuit around, if your leg are 200 amp by code you are only to draw 80 of load, in all casess you will spike up amp on start up and wear the breaker down ( Main 200 ) Heat is a factor, in all area of tanning you have to get the heat out of the salon, cooler will help but ,sorry you will have to increace the service or add another 100-200 amp if problem still present.Remember each leg can draw 180 amp up to 200 total on each leg but watch out for overload. |
