Helios 11.6.1 update help

Helios 11.6.1 help!!! My Helios 11 "time bomb" is still ticking ...
We still have not received the software update and new dongle from Helios. I got a temporary "fix" from Helios Tech Support via e-mail that shows as Helios 11.6.0.6 installer.zip, the version we are running is Helios 11.6.1. When I installed it it errored out telling me the update is corrupt. The zip file extracted fine, no errors. I wonder if there is a compatibility conflict when installing 11.6.0.6 update on 11.6.1?
This update killed Helios, Helios 11 will no longer run after the update sent from Tech Support. Thanks, tech support.
Has anyone else NOT received the new software and dongle yet? Any suggestions?

Re: Helios 11.6.1 update help

11.6.0.6 would pre-date 11.6.1, assuming the idiots at helios fallow build number right.

Re: Helios 11.6.1 update help

Pull the dongle and run the software in DEMO mode.

Make paper notes on all sales, sessions, etc to put in once software is updated.

Helios will open fine in DEMO mode, just no transactions function, sales, turning on beds, etc....

Set T-Max for manual operation. If unsure, call them direct. www.appdig.com

Re: Helios 11.6.1 update help

Oops I posted this to the wrong thread. I'm not really retarded, but my wife may disagree (she reads this forum, lessee if she notices my mention of her)

ALWAYS back up a directory before blindly applying an update to it, especially from a bunch of a-holes like Helios.

To back up a typical H11 install:

1) Explore->Program Files
2) Right click on "Helios11" folder, choose "Copy"
3) Right click on C: choose "New Folder". Name this folder "Helios Backup Oct 1 2009" or similar
4) Explore to folder, choose File->Paste
5) Wait a few minutes while the backup is produced.

This is not the best way to perform a backup, it is the poor man's way of performing a backup.

Also, sorry, this info is too little too late for you.

I had the same issue as described by the op and I think my problem was that the extract directory was not writable or something goofy. I moved the Helios Updater .exe file to the Desktop and it worked, but only after I restored from backup.

Hope this helps someone else!

Re: Helios 11.6.1 update help

^^^That works fine for reverting to the previous copy in case of data corruption and is easy and recommended when doing any update so you can go back if the update doesn't work. Once the update works and is complete you can either keep the older version or delete it.

This is however not a backup in case of hard drive failure as the main and the backup are both on the hard drive. You need to have the backup on a separate drive such as another hard drive, flash drive, burned to CD, uploaded to e-mail, etc... This will ensure that you can restore where you left off if the hard drive fails but you do have to regularly make backups to be able to get the info back.

Also, the backup only needs to be the data folder for regular data backup. The software would just be installed from the disk and then you just add your backed up data folder to it.

Saving just the whole program as explained above does not also backup the meandering extensions and plug ins that are stored elsewhere in the operating system this is why you would re install the software from the disk and then add your data file to it. Plus, you do not need as much space to store just the data and the program on the disk is the same for everyone, only the data file is unique.
