CASH DRAWER QUESTION!~?????

i finally installed a star receipt printer and a cash drawer.

receipt printer works fine

cash drawer dosent work in helios.

under system there are 4 port choices lpt 1-2-3 and usb

lpt 1 freezes helios when i try to open drawer

the other 3 say no cash drawer found

my receipt printer is hooked up trough a serial cable im wondering if i need it to be a parallel cable.

helios tech lady was useless she never even asked me if i had the cash drawer option enabled in system or talked about the ports.

she did however ask me to reverse the cable goin to the drawer. then when she came to the conclusion i didnt buy the drawer from helios she said they dont support the product. only a helios cash drawer will work!!!!

anybody got a suggestion

my knowledge on this is 3 years old ... but to the best of my knowledge ... serial will not work with Helios to kick the drawer

thats what im thinking to. seeing there is no com port option for the cash drawer.
good thing i got a computer shop in my plaza gunna run down there now.

for 50 bucks a month you would think helios tech would be smart enough to tell me that!

I have cash drawers, but they connect to the back of the Star printer and work fine in Helios. I suppose you dont have a phone jack on the back of the drawers?

Well mine is set to LPT1 and then "connected to receipt printer".

As for the cable, these are big fat ones on each end, parallel cables.

Did you install all the Star driver? I think I had to install a couple sets for it to work right.

Also there is some Star software on their site that comes in handy, you can even upload an image into the printer for store logo or coupons. These printers are the best I have picked up - for free

yeah i beleive my cable is the prob...i got the receipt printer hooked up via seriel cable. i bought a parellel cable but now nothing works. i think the printer itself is set up for seriel not parellel. i might need to change the interface is what the computer geek in my plaza said! havent had time (well i had time just not patience) to wait on hold for 30 minutes to get a star tech guy.

Ok, I have mine run through a serial cable from computer to printer to cash drawer.

Settings in Helios....

Under printer setup....

Receipt printer~ Star sp212 line mode printer

Under cash drawer....

"Connected to printer" box checked.

Under cash drawer port (parallel)

"Com port 1" box checked.

I cannot believe as a A+ Certified Professional that in this day and age we are dealing with SERIAL and COM PORTS. 20 year old technology.

And now you know why I use Macs for everything I can! LOL. USB, Firewire are the only connectivity ports. Oh, and they dont ship with floppy drives! lol

I have two printers on two very different Dells though. XP Pro. The printer is setup under LPT1 with bidirectional support on - I think thats needed for cash drawer?

Also its prints directly to printer, no spooling, I had problems with that.

I am using the RASTER driver only.

I have a Star TSP613 driver, but the model I think is just the 600. Odd, but works fine.

Not sure if any of that helps.

The only other thing I could think of would be a driver conflict. Maybe make sure no other printers are installed for now.
