POS Or Custom

Just wondering, I'm looking to purchase a salon. The spent alot of money 2 years ago for a dell system with quickbooks POS system. Of course the only thing they use is it for is the cash drawer. I want to get things organized so my books are easier to manage. The store does about $60k in sales. I'd be curious if anyone uses quickbooks POS to manage a salon or is it worth to purchase one of the custom salon softwares talked about on here?

I believe most run a tanning software to keep track of everything more clear as it's geared towards tanning. It will calculate all your accounting as well. Much better than a regular accounting software will.

You do know that operating costs are over $60k for a tanning salon....i hope you got a great deal on that salon.

Re: POS Or Custom

Thanks, for the input on the software. No this salon is much less on the operating costs. About $23,000 plus payroll of $24,000 so it's averaged a net profit of about $14,000. It has much more potential, great location just about on a large college campus with great ties to the school, the 9000 students can walk 1 block from the dorms to the place plus there is not alot of things to do around town. There is little lotion sales currently and alot of wasteful overhead. I think with some closer management it will net close to $20,000. It's my wife's salon, so about 1/2 of that payroll is for her. We should be getting it for $30,000. Not looking to get rich, just side income.
