Helios and multiple workstations...

Yet another Helios problem. Before I call and am told "They are busy, whats you number, they will call you back", I would rather post here then call tomorrow.

One is the so called server. Its a workstation and has been for years. Works well. They other is a new Dell with a fresh install of XP Pro and Norton.

So far two things happen. First was the timer server would not sync right. The main workstation would show a bed dirty for the right amount of time or the correct time remaining. However the other station would be "stuck" and not update until you did something within Helios on that station.

The other problem, and this is a big one. I opened up a client and tanned then. After the T-Max got its info Helios sorta froze at the employee ID line. But the red little triangle still flashed, but REALLY slowly. I could not close the sale but when I went to close Helios it said I could not with a POS transaction open. So I had to force-quit Helios. Now when I re-open it I find that the customer did tan (session is missing) but there is no record of it. It does know though since it wont let me tan him again today.

So, anyone have this happen? Or has anyone had problems with multiple workstations?

Both CPUs are Dells. A cisco switch routed the network traffic. Firewalls are up and running. Everything else seems ok.

Yes. And I dont think I need to "synced" since they are mapped. I did what they told me to do. For the most part it works fine, I just dont want these problems to be a consistently random problem.

Re: Helios and multiple workstations...

May be all that security stuff. There is a particular Service Pack that Helios doesn't like. Do a search, it's here somewhere.

Unity you seem really smart about this stuff. So I have a question for you. I am opening my 2nd salon in March and I have helios. How do I set up my program to run off both salons??

Re: Helios and multiple workstations...

Thanks! I try!

Helios can help you best with this, as part of the support package they should.

But in essence you will need to create a VPN (Virtual Private Network) which is like creating a local secure network over the internet. You obviously dont want to be dumping you client data all over the net without it being protected! You will also need high-speed internet access at both locations and you may require a static IP setup which can cost a great deal more from the net provider, but there may be work arounds to that.

So its very doable and many have, but I have never had the chance to set something up like this with Helios.
