SCREW you!!!

I am open minded about a lot of things but when someone comes on here and tells everyone to "jump" on it is smoken dope!!

I control my backups, I control my business!!. I will not rely on anyone to do that for me. You say that my staff can steal my info and then resell, that would be the case no matter where and how I was saving my data. If Helios was hosting my data then what would stop them from taking all my clients info and reselling it to my competitor. Have you ever heard of "buying leads"? Things like that happen and will happen.

Tomorrow you should change your name to Yesterday!!! :) You just dont get it!!!!

Screw me hey? Boy you already should defensive!

Your employees cant steal data off of a hosted solution Einstein! Geez....

You would be a rich man if anyone from Helios stole your data :) Thats just plain paranoid! Isnt that obvious :)

Thousands and thousands of companies use hosted solutions! It is the way of the future in industries much more sophisticated then ours! Do your research!

In my salon if i lose my broadband connection i would not only lose my connection to my data but to my phone as well (I use VOIP and so should everyone). I would also lose my ability to authorize credit cards sooooooooooooo i invested in the technology of our times and got a failover router for $250 bucks and have verizon wireless as our broadband backup so i wont ever go down :)

Verizon cost me an extra $60 a month but i save more then that on my phone bill since i use VOIP!!! So i win all around and never go down....

On a side note v12 runs extremely fast on wireless technology. I have tested it throughly and it runs VERY fast! So no one ever needs to go down again!

Do you still use dialup to authorize credit cards Unity?

I can lose my DSL connection and my phone works just swell both at the salon and at the house. Not sure why you think they both have to go down at the same time. I don't use VOIP though. My LD usage and rates are such that there's no reason to just for the reason you stated - I don't want my phone to go out every time my broadband connection is down. But I DO want to be access my customer accounts if my connection is down. There is no way I would EVER put everything on a server. I have my own off site server so if I was going to put it on anyone's server it would be my own and I haven't even made that step yet. Backing up and bringing the data with me is my best bet right now.

Helios doesn't even have a backup program. My tech and I were both laughing at that - a "new" version with no one click back up.

Re: Helios Centrix

oh geez....people just dont listen! The reason you dont lose your phone when your DSL goes down is because you have a standard PSTN "copper" land line.

Cable is better then DSL if you can get it. VOIP is much better then standard phone technology. Its also less money and comes with free long distance!

So this tells me that you are not using your broadband to do your credit cards? Do you have a dedicated line for fax and/or credit cards? If so theres an additional savings since you could eliminate both!

The reason you use the Helios server and not your own is so you dont have to be responsible for it! So you can focus on your business and not your IT. Unless of course you like to do that! They dont charge anymore to host it so its pointless and more money to host it yourself!!!!

If you have multiple locations and your server goes down or your server connection goes down, you will bring your whole chain down! But hey do as you please! I let them host mine! It just makes more sense!

Re: Helios Centrix

VOIP has it's downfalls to. I'm an original customer of Vonage. At the salon unless you pay over $100 a month for a better bandwidth connection you might have issues with bandwidth like we did. It's not so unbearable now that Comcast
doubled our bandwidth. At home we switched from Vonage to FIOS VOIP which is 100 times better so far. I'm still waiting to get FIOS at the salon.... its supposed to be offered soon. Also I should be able to keep my salon phone number since Verizon is the true owner of the phone number. As I stated before I can't switch to cable unless I give up our current phone number.

PitBull you are familiar with how much money you save with Vonage. It's the same if you get an 800 number with them as well. Maybe you could relay that to Helios. :)

First on VOIP. I have VOIP also, but most services have a "backup" number you can route to (in my case, cell phones). So if anyone has VOIP you should have that setup. I also have a system in place that if VOIP drops my cell gets a text alert so I know when I get "strange" calls I need to answer them with the salon name and not "Hello!".

Credit cards get processed with a tether to a cell phone kept at the salon. So that has a backup also.

Both of the above solutions provide a direct backup and $0 cost really since the cell phones are already in place.

The above would also indicate that my credit cards use the net connection. In this case we use Helios to process, which is the best move I ever made.

But I would be wary about running Helios over one of the backup phones. Thats a lot of data to push over an Edge connection. 3G would be another thing, but in my area is limited.

i agree edge wont be a good solution but 3g works great! Our failover system makes having a true WAN (hosted or otherwise) safe and reliable! I hate the idea of having my data at every store which v12 will let you do!
