Helios Database Backup/Maintenance

Hello All,

I am posting tonight to get some feedback and hopefully more ideas on a set of programs I am writing. As a salon owner running Helios 11.4.7 I have run into a number of things I wish the application would do. Some of the things are database backups, database compression and off site backups.

I put together some basic requirements and was hoping to get some feedback on them.

1. Must be able to backup database files locally and off site
2. Must compress database before backing up files to maximize storage space
3. Must store compressed database files in a zip format for final storage
4. Must be able to backup during business hours without interrupting salon staff
5. Must be able to run manually and automatically
6. Must be able to handle multiple location/salons
7. Must be able to restore the database using “point in time”
8. Must be able to restore files on other system in the event of hardware failure
9. Must provide log data in the event of backup failure

I am doing the scheduling using the Scheduler service in Windows 2000/XP. I didn’t see a need to reinvent that section. At this point I have built and tested two applications to handle the tasks listed above. One handles the backup and one handles the restores. Now that I am in the finishing stages for the restore application I would like to add some more functionality that maybe I am over looking.

Your thoughts or comment are greatly appreciated.
