T Max wiring... need some help and advice

Ok so I am doing a complete rewire on the salon, moving timers in the rooms and making them more accessible.

The plan is to get rid of all the individual power supplies as the current timer locations are next to the plugs by the doors, but not next to the beds which makes them rather inconveinent, and the combination of individual cables and old cables is a mess(old tantime cables everywhere)

So I plan to rewire, daisychain and run a common power cable to all the in room 3a's, this is where I get lost is on the cable selection and Radio shack seems to be the cheapest, but limited selection to choose from.

for the common power cable, was going to use 20 gauge 2 strand wire running from a 12vdc 2amp power supply, the problem is the only wire I seem to find is, well pretty much speaker wire? Could use a little advice here.

on the data cable for the daisychain, rad shack does not have 2 pair sheilded that I could find, but they do carry 4 conductor modular standed phone cable. And it all seems to be 24 gauge, which I dont think is sufficient, I think it should be 18-20 guage.

Any advice on cable selection and a possible source would be greatly appreciated. I would like to do it right the first time and avoid any future issues.

As to the common power supply for all of the timers, I recommend you do not do this. Each timer requires a consistent MA supply (1200 if I'm not mistaken) and standard sags and surges on AC lines will wess with this. I know of a salon that has three timers each to one pwer supply and they have had many problems with this set up.

Nothing wrong with 20ga wire for 2 amps. 24ga is plenty good for data.

But I'd listen to Belvie IMO.

Re: T Max wiring... need some help and advice

thx guys, I talked to ADI, 200ma per timer is the draw, so if split salon 2A is more than enough... it is recommended to use an APC though to alleviate any momentary drops, but I have read a lot before asking, and it is my understanding, you cannot use phone cable for TMAX, and some argument on whether you can use intercom cable. The recommendation is 18-22ga stranded and sheilded on data, but I just cant seem to find it anywhere.

Don't really see the point. It's just transmit and receive - not high speed data xfer. The cable going to the Tmax is just a glorified telephone cord.

KnxTan, are you saying you can use phone cable? cause I have a 1000ft of that, its 3/24 cat3 (6 wire non stranded, non modular)

yes you can. you just have to make double sure that the wires don't cross. That is the reason regular telephone wire doesn't work.

Re: T Max wiring... need some help and advice

I thought Phone cable is usually cross-over, 4 or six wire RJ11 non-stranded

Re: T Max wiring... need some help and advice

You need the 4 wire flat cord. And TS was referring to the cord ends, the RJ-22 plugs. Make sure when you crimp the ends on that you have a straight-through connection, ie with the clip of the plug down, the black wire is on the left in bothe ends. Hope this makes sense to somebody out there.

Re: T Max wiring... need some help and advice

ok, you guys got me all confused, but just to be ABSOLUTELY CLEAR, are you all saying I can use standard 4 wire phone cable for TMax (making sure it is straight through)?

MR B, with the clip ends down, and the two end clips are side by side, if the black wire is on the left on both ends, does that not make it a crossover (ie: when you draw the cable strait the black wire actually crosses over)
