Sundash 252 standup lamp out

I have a sundash 252 standup that has a lamp out in the door. Basic checks of starters, and lamps by switching them out netted zero results.

Could there be a short in the wiring coming in to the door? I don't think this unit has capacitors does it? If so could a capacitor be bad?

Did the lamp work when you switched it with another lamp? Also, you can check the lampholder (if they are bi-pin lamps).

Yes, both the lamp and the starter worked on a different lamp location.

They are bipin lamps. The contacts appeared to be in good working order, but I didn't check them for power.

I would be that the lamp holder is shot and needs to be replaced.

Re: Sundash 252 standup lamp out

If this unit is around a 2002 model, the have 1.8amp choke ballast in them. I would first check the wires going to the lamp holder and make sure that they are secure. If there are no visual signs of the lamp holder being burnt or busted, I would then check the ballast. If you can't follow the wires to see which ballast goes to that particular lamp, fire up the unit and let it run for 3/4 of a session, then find the ballast for that particular door and put your hand on them to find the cold one. If you don't have a volt meter, flip flop the ballast to see it that changes anything. You may also have a capacitor issue. I've never worked on this unit and I don't have a schematic for it. I'm not even sure where the ballast are located. Most units, it should be in the same panel but it may have a separate tray outside the unit will all the ballast in it. Good luck and let me know if I can be of anymore help.

Re: Sundash 252 standup lamp out

Sarge,
Thanks for the input... I don't have it fixed yet. I've been knee deep in a Helios conversion. But that's now out of the way and working smoothly.

I'll check the ballasts. I don't think this is a unit with capacitors. At least I haven't found any.

I'll check the lamp holder and the heat from the ballasts and update this thread.

Re: Sundash 252 standup lamp out

HollywoodTan48. If this is the unit I'm looking at in my collection of info, it does have choke ballast which will mean there will be capacitors. If you can take a pic of it and email it to me I may be able to help you better. Also you could call Sundash. Is there a separate box outside this unit that hold the ballast or are they in the unit? Let me know or PM me and I'll give you my number to talk on it. Too many back and forth questions to ask to get it fixed to type out. Then we can post the outcome for everyone to see incase they run into the same issue. Thanks.
