Internet

Does anyone know a good program to block internet access? I still need to keep the DSL line open for my credit cards and I would like to have some sort of password protect so I can still log on. But other than the, ALL THE MYSPACE IS GONE!!!! These girls are crazy! I didnt mind at first, but now it is out of hand and they do not self regulate.
Thanks!

Re: Internet

Tools - internet options - content - enable - okay - I think at this point it prompts you to create a password. You just have to remember to turn it back on after you have been on it for the day

Re: Internet

we have internet explorer so I did what jacksmommy recommended and blocked the home page, I am hoping they dont figure out how to change the home page so they can get back on, if they do figure it out I listed myspace, meebo, and ebay, on the individual blocked list. I cant wait to see their reaction when I nicely tell them that I was going to block it if they couldnt regulate their time and still be productive. There is nothing more irritating to me than seeing a rush, they get all the beds clean and sit down to myspace. They could be restocking towels, dusting, filling spray bottles, heck ANYTHING but the internet. I am so excited to see them crushed over it.

Re: Internet

We don't care how staff spends free time as long as all shift duties are completed, but playing on the INTERNET is a big NO-NO. It's important for staff to know that Internet Trojans can endanger customer's credit card information or Viruses can halt operations and it's a third rail policy NOT to spend free time playing on the INTERNET .

It's pretty easy to check browser logs, firewall logs, and cookies on occasion to verify/insure compliance.
Good Luck.

Re: Internet

Here is a good way to block access, but it requires some setup to do it right. First, this only works for WinXP Pro and two different windows accounts. (IE administrator and employee) Go to My Computer (as the admin), and go to Tools->Folder Options. Click on the "View" tab. The bottom checkbox should say "Use simple file sharing." Uncheck this box and hit "Apply" and "Ok."

Double click the C: drive
Double click the Windows Folder
Double click the system32 folder

Find the "mshtml.dll" file and right click and go to properties. On the security tab, select the employee account, and select block all. "Apply" and "Ok." MSHTML.DLL is the driver that allows internet explorer to read HTML (the internet language). If they can't access the driver, no web access. Any time they try to open a page, it will ask them if they want to "Open" or "save" neither of which will do anything.

This only works if you are using Internet Explorer as your browser. If you are using firefox or anything else, it won't work. If you have any quesiotns let me know!
