I am opening up a second salon and I need to find out how big of an air conditioning unit I need. The salon is 1800 sq.feet with 10 foot ceilings. The beds in it so far are: lotus, starpower 52-4, summer 75, montego bay v-56, heartland 2m and still have room for 4 more later. I was thinking about putting in 2 units one for the front and one for the back. What do you think?

This is one of those areas where calling in a pro is real helpful and may even save you money. Estimating AC requirements has all kinds of variables location, building orientation to the sun, square footage and location of windows, insulation, and …

If you over-estimate you buy too much AC, if you under-estimate you over-run your AC and add to already large power bills. Pros can also talk about price/efficiency, the balance between cheaper AC equipment and power consumption.
Good Luck.

Tom

24-26 lamp bed requires 3/4 ton a/c per bed and a 30-40 lamp bed will require 1 + ton a/c per bed.

Booths should be vented to the outside where possible.

3.90 times total wattage equals BTU output and 1 Ton A/C = 12,000 BTU

I believe you may find some recs here:

Just remember to add up your A/C requirements for your beds and then take your A/C requirements for the store as if was a retail store. I have seen many salons that add up what the beds need for A/C and they don't add A/C for the store to be cool and the stores get very hot.

Yes, that's the best advice.....add tons req.d for ea. bed and consider all outside tanning room space retail area and use your a/c man as a guide for that . I also have found that using reg. that let the air drop straight down as opposed to beind diffused is helpful as it keeps the air where you want it. Going for a slightly larger unit is prob. a good idea as it's easier to get it done now as opposed to adding later.....hopefully you'll do so well expansion will be needed. Good Luck !!

Also if you can get A/C units with economizers that wouls be a big plus. Economizers allow your A/C to take cold air from outside in the cooler months to avoid usind A/C early in the season.
