Where would your database be located?

That's right, the database would be on their server.

I'm a little teed off tonight at Helios. Today is my day for running my efts. Well, the remote server was down for Helios tonight. We called there but were told we'd have to wait until tomorrow morning to talk with Jeff about it. I don't know why that is. Seems they'd kickstart their servers and get them going again. Must involve more than I know.

So...no money in the bank tonight.

Well, I originally recommended Helios and for the last three years haven’t regretted that decision, and I’m willing to give Helios V12 a chance, but the Helios marking machine has spent a LOT of time debuting V12 at trade shows, it seem to be about time that they spend a LITTLE time addressing some concerns:

Do we have to ADD one of their “PlayStation” devices or can we use an existing PC, because we HAVE to maintain a PC for other business reasons? Will these new “PlayStation” devices share existing peripherals with an existing PC, Monitors, Printers, Keyboards, Scanners, Credit Card and Driver’s License Readers or will we have to buy two sets (if we have the space).

We already have an internet connection, but that is going to be another monthly hit for people that don’t, and again will the “PlayStation” device need a router to be share the internet with an existing computer. I’ve been in the computer biz for over 25 years, but even if sharing is possible, this whole thing could be a configuration nightmare.

Can we host our own server or does Helios expect us to just “trust them” (confidentiality and security indemnification agreement or not) NOT to “Play” in our customer’s info, credit card numbers and transactional data. Do they own our customer’s data or do we? Can we backup, link to, retrieve, or otherwise use our customer data for anything outside Helios?

They have a good product, a great customer base, a lot TSOs depending on them, they are already on the V12 sales pitch, hopefully they will start addressing some of these concerns soon.
Good luck to all Helios users, we’re in the same boat.

Are you already on V12 as customer and NOT a free BETA tester? If you're on V12 as BETA tester paying NO monthly charges, that's life, but if you're on V12 as a customer, paying monthly charges, that's death. And what is your contractual recourse or reimbursement from Helios?

Tom

That would be my biggest concern right there.

Neon,

If Helios could sell you on any upgrade from V9, that alone, would be almost enough of a recommendation for me.

BTW, V9 is still me favorite verion, why did they take the pictures off the main screen.
