Blocking employee internet access? - tanTALK

I'm sure this question has been asked before but a search did not turn up the answer. Is there a way to block employee access to the internet? Preferrably block all sites except those approved, anyway to password protect access/ I am running XP Pro

From another site:

Open Explorer……Tools…….Internet Options........Content.....Content Advisor......Enable........General...... Create Password......Supervisor can type password.

This will allow you to surf using your password, but if you have certain sites you allow them to view then you can allow for that as well.

Is this the same computer you have your data base and tanning software loaded and running on? If yes are you asking for troubles or do not mind your employees roaming the internet.

Just make sure that you have Spy sweeper & McAfee .

There are a few ways to do that, Other posters have posted the correct info, but if you do not want that computer to access the internet you can always take out the default gateway. Start - control panel - network connections -- right click local area connection - properties - tcp/ip- statically assign ip address leave out default gateway

As of yesterday I told my two (part-timers) not to use the internet anymore. I had 18 viruses on my computer due to one of them playing "Free Games". It was a nightmare for me. All I could think of was my computer crashing. They both understand the reasons for no longer being able to go on the internet. It's for business use only. I have a new policy if I find out that they even attempted to go on....it's grounds for dismissal! or they pay for the computer expenses if anything should happen to it including dollars loss if business is close due to computer problems. We thought about doing the block but I think my husband got through to my employee pretty LOUD & CLEAR! (LOL)

X-Treme, I would not take a chance, the above option is free and easy and easy to disable at times that you need to be able to use the internet. The internet is an awful strong urge for a bored employee.

Summrtan, I agree about the strong urge. I have a TV in back or they can play DVD on plasma screens that I have on wall at front lobby area in which they can watch. The one employee works for me on Sundays for just 4 hours so between chores, TV, or reading I told him if he wants bring his XBOX to work and play it in back after all chores are done. Of course, pay attention to customers coming in. He is my daughter's boyfriend so he knows if he screws up again, I don't think he will want to see my husband's wrath the second time.
