We use Smart Mail to send emails to our customers but we're entering the addresses one-by-one because we don't know how to group them together or whatnot. I found a message posted regarding Smart Mail and sending emails and was hoping for some help. Is there a way to group them together? Thank you for your time and help.

I don't understand what you mean by "group them together".

Sounds like she is sending an email to one email address at a time rather than to all email addresses at one time.

Oh, I get it, you may be right MovieKing, maybe Janell is trying to CC (Carbon Copy) or BCC (Blind Caron Copy) multiple addressees. But why? CC and BCC is used by people who send out one email and use CCs or BCC and they were intended, or by people who send out huge amount of email (spammers) and use CCs or BCCs to save time.

CC (Carbon Copy) or BCC (Blind Caron Copy) defeats the purpose the merge feature (by definition record by record) built into Smart Mail. I looked at Smart Mail and decided to go with something that supported MIME and therefore HTML emails, I send 1000s of email a month, and don’t think the sending process takes anymore than 20 minutes.
I think its possible that we still missing something here. Janell?

One of the functions within SmartMail is to email clients. You inidicate that you wish to email on one of the initial screens within SmartMail, it will allow you to indicate which email addresses you wish to use on a client. You then continue to enter any desired selection criteria (enter none if you wish all client with email addresses).

Make sure that clients with email addresses have the Send Email tick on the Client Information/Profile screen.

You will need to configure the Email Server interface within SmartMail, it will prompt you to do this the first time through.

You can then format your desired email using HTML formating. You can also save this format for future modification and use.

If you are using Helios V11.4 the Email Client has been updated if not check with Tech Support to ensure you get the latest update.

On a side note (since it was brought up in this post) the Helios SmartMail Email client sends via BCC - Blind Carbon Copy to protect the privacy of the individual client email addresses from other recipients.

There is another software that is much better than Smart Mail, it is called EZ Batch Mail, you can download it at http://www.veryusefulsoftware.com. We use it after frustration with Smart Mail.

Annie, how did you get the emails kept in Helios into the EZ Batch Mail? Did you have to enter them one at a time?

Do the SmartMail extract in Helios for email ... it will create a smail.mdb with the email addresses in it ... use that as your input file into EZ Batch Mail.
