Any users? Opinions? Thusfar, it has the best structure and visual appeal I've seen (Not so much 'colors', but common sense ease of use in layout) but I've seen little discussion.

Advice?

An online salon management solution ? Not too sure this would go down too well. Where is the data stored? If it's on a server somewhere won't this be a little off putting for users?
In theory it's a nice idea but how many salons have a 24/7 internet connection?
If the net connection drops then the software drops too.
I've watched some of the demos and the system looks ok I just think net software is a little way off yet as people just don't trust the security or the reliability. This will change in time I think but I think Thin Client is possibly the way to go.

Take care,

Jase

I looked at it, (along with other packages) but I'm not big on putting my entire business on someone else's computer.

Makes sense. It's online aspect wasn't what interested me so much as the ease of use and navigation. The owner/author apparently isn't interested in selling it or replying to anything, so I suppose it's a moot point. Valuable advice though--thank you.

BronzeBeachTan,

Salon software is a tough nut, although an extremely important one. We went with Helios because it’s not that bad to train employees for general customer processing, and it has a bunch of important management features. I’ve read you’re not big on Helios, fair enough; I don’t have or want a dog in that fight. I looked at a bunch of them. From my notes:

Helios http://www.gohelios.com/helios/request_demo.asp
TanTrack http://www.nichesoft.com/tt/demoreq.asp
SunEase http://www.fstcompany.com/files/index.html
SalonXpert http://www.salonxpert.com/prod/home.php3
SunLynk Couldn't find their demo.
SolarTrack http://www.solartrack.com
SunTouch http://www.idi-usa.com/email_pages/email_download_suntouch_demo.htm
SonTouch's demo is a bunch of screenshots with clickable hotspots. (near useless)

Good luck, have fun.
Tom

I noted that about SunTouch; I assumed at some point that a competitor designed that demo to scare clients away, because that was the only conclusion I could reach regarding what a POS it was.

Helios seemed a bit cumbersome, but that was because of my initial exposure to ST2.0. After more than a month I finally received a response from them and they've expanded their demo and appear to be in business afterall, but I'll research it more to see if it won't operate as a stand-alone (as opposed to being forced to use an internet based database) because if that's the case, it's off my list as well.

Here's the demo (PW's are 'demo') for those curious while I check its Point of Sale capabilities and its dependence on the internet. Again, I'm a complete neophyte (hence my asking advice) but it seems remarkably user friendly.

Not sure how you arrived at the conclusion regarding Helios dependency on internet ... V11 is a PC based application and does not require internet connectivity. There are some additional functions that are available with Helios V11 that do require internet but they are optional and it is your decision to use them or not, regardless the database is resident on your PC.

Helios is working on V12 that will be available next year, it is a web based application and that most certainly is and will be the direction of all state of the art applications in the future.

...Otherwiase known as Centrix? Just curiuous.

Final note regarding SalonEdge: Someone finally made contact with me, and let me know it was $49 a month, and completely web-based. No software on your computer whatsoever, the advantages being that clients can make appointments online and management can check on operations from the house or any computer in the universe on the WWW.

So I asked if that meant the operation of 100% of my Salon, from POS to activating the timers, was completely dependent on the internect connection, to which they replied 'Yes'.

To which I replied 'Goodbye'.

It's lookng like Helios at the time of this response.

Re: Salon Edge 2.0

bbt-

rather new to this, but couldnt one just mirror or 'ghost' the program on an internal server as back up? this would eliminate the rare occasion that a t-1 or greater ever goes down.

in the past year, i can think of one occasion when our internet service was down during biz hrs.

thoughts ?
