Is Helios no longer carrying the Fingerprint scanner with Identification? I noticed they no longer have it on their website. Just wondering if they had problems with it and stopped carrying it.

I was just wondering the same.

I think Tan2000 was referring to the Identification model. They used to have both the ID and the Verification models

Helios still carries and recommends the Verification model.

The Identification model provided inconsistent results and has been withdrawn from sale. Many users had difficulty with them, and many users had no problem (well at least some).

If you are already using the Identification model successfully, you can contact Helios Sales and order the Identification model. It can ONLY be returned within 7 days of receipt, so you have to know it is working in your environment.

Does helios offer any sort of refund for the inconsistent Identification model? I hate the fact that Helios praised the Identification model a year ago, however now they feel it's inconsistent so that's why they removed it. That was one of the reasons I stopped using it was because of problems. Just doesn't seem fair to not be able to use a $500.00 piece of equipment or be able to return it helios for some sort of credit.

As a software developer I feel the need to come to Helios defense on this issue. There are times when you institute new technologies that work great in an in-house testing environment but when they hit the real world issues pop up. We integrated the same biometric fingerprint systems into our video POS software for both the employee side and customer side for lookup. The employee side is great but on the customer side, we found after release that when the database grows to a large size that the responce times became terribly long. We had to adjust it to work more like a pin pad, verifying the identity of someone who had already been pulled up in the system rather than as the lookup tool. While I'm sure that they understand the frustration you feel in not being able to use a component that they designed for you, understand that not all circumstances can be tested for in advance and it's sometimes the price you pay for dealing with a company that tries to bring you the newest technology and bring you the best benefits. JMO of course.
