Okay not too sure why my last post got censored so I'll do it again. For those who may like the Orbit but not the price tag you can look towards the Voyager line from Metrologic. They can be used either handheld or with the included stand for hands free operation. You should be able to find them for $249.00 or less.

Not sure who Moderated these two posts, not me. Likely because they in a sense sort of cross the line regarding free advertising.

They do draw attention to the alternate line of scanner available from MetroLogic at a lower price. Helios in the past also sold this scanner but opted to discontinue its sale. It is a good device, but not the best in the option of Helios for use within a salon.

It has a much smaller scan head than the orbit and many of the lotion products have very small UPC codes and scanning with the Orbit style device is much more reliable and quicker.

Many salon also use Key Tabs for retrieving clients and the Orbit is much easier for your client base to use than the Voyager unit. The Orbit model is easier to be used both by Clients for scanning Key Tabs and Staff for scanning product on both sides of the counter. The Voyager unit would tend to have to be moved more than the Orbit to work in both environments.

I do a lot of work for a firm in CT that has many Video Rental locations as well as 8 tanning locations. They use as you suggested a Voyager style device in the Video locations because the Barcodes on the product is properly sized and contrasted for effective scanning and all the scanning happens behind the counter. In their tanning salons they are finding the Orbit model works better as suggested.

But hey, choice is a good thing ... points to consider sometimes do go beyond just prices for effective operation.

Andy - That is the answer I think we were looking for. Thank you for clarification. When talking to Helios sales though they specifically say that what Helios sells is all that will work and that is simply not true. I even tried to return my Orbit to Helios but since I bought everything about 90 days before opening the salon Helios would not accept the return. Helios seems to have a strict 30 day return time. My Orbit has never even been out of the box so if anyone needs one I still have one to sell.

I do like Helios, just not the scare tactics that the sales dept. used on me!

I have Tan Track and part fo the package I bought included the Voyager model and it works superb, I only wish I was using it more this time of year. (My proximity to the Beach might have something to do with it)
