Rep Power: 8 Sonshinetans is on a distinguished road
Ok, I've ordered my new dongle and upgraded version 11 cd. I am going to install this on my system over the weekend while the techs are off, that is all but Andy. He must work 24-7.
I am upgrading from vs 9.40 - What problems do I need to prepare for with this change?
Will I be able to restore my data from my vs 9 backup disk?
Thanks in advance,
preventive maintance
Tommy

When you install V11 on your store systems, V9.4 will not operate ... FEAR NOT ... on the V11 CD there is an UPGRADE directory with a H9Upgrade sub directory, inside that there is a Helios9 executable (V9.4.5), you need to copy/replace that executable to your Helios9 directory. This is ONLY applicable AFTER you install V11 on a system, if you wish to also run V9 on the same system.

V9.4.5 will now operate properly, be aware of the two following issues, SMARTMAIL while not operate within V9.4.5 but V11 Smartmail will work fine. In V9.4.5 when running any report you will get a popup box suggesting an update to VideoSoft OCX ... just click OK and continue on all is A-OK

This is all caused by V11 using newer OCX than V9.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST that you do a TEST convert at a time that you can access Tech Support just in case there are any issue or questions. The V11 convert from V9 is very reliable, best to plan for a problem ... that way you will not have one.

When you do the convert, expect a number (quite often MANY) errors on the convert of the Clients ... there will be a error log in the Convert Directory within Helios11 and you can check that the errors related to LastVisit and FirstVisit Employee references which is an error that I have never seen create a problem.

The new resolution of the POS Screen in V11 (1024 x 768) is great in that it allows for additional info ... BUT ... 17" Monitors are VERY much recommended ... some Users are OK with 15" monitor and some believe they are just to small ... so check it out so no surprises.

Not following your question regarding restoring your data from your V9 backup ... are you moving to a new machine ... if yes, how are you backing up ... if with the Helios V9 Backup utility (which does not exist in V11). You will either have to install V9 to be able to Restore ... or BETTER APPROACH ... use WinZIP or WinRAR to extract the Backup to a folder you will create ... in the V9 to V11 convert you can Browse to the location of the V9 data you wish to convert into V11. If you are using some other approach to backup you V9 data, they use that same utility to restore onto the new system if you are upgrading.

V11 you need Windows 2000 or XP Professional (SP1) ... SP2 is NOT Compatible with Helios V11 at this time, solution on this point is getting close but not yet.

... may be back with more ... have to go now

MY - MY - MY
I'm glad I asked.... I don't mind waiting for more
I'm glad you put that "fear not" in the sentence..
I am sure it will be worth it once it's done and over.
I back up on a zip drive now, how do you back up on vs 11?

Tommy ... there actually really is not that much there that affect V11 ... it is the world around it that I am trying to prepare you for.

re Backup ... if you are using the ZIP Disk utility you can continue to do so ... just change the source path to Helios11\Data rather than Helios9\Data

Yes but unfortunately not to the show. My wife and I are celebrating our 5th year anniversary and going on a disney cruise that leaves from Orlando.
