Rep Power: 0 | Hello everyone. I am the sole computer/network technician for Shelley's Suntan Parlour in Auburn, Washington. It's a great salon and it's very successful. But the owner, bless her heart, has avoided upgrading her salon software for so long and now problems are starting to arise. We are running Sunmate 3, yes, I know. I've upgraded her hardware many times over the last six years. I've taken here from a 386/486 combo to a K6-2 500 combo, which is more than enough to deal with Sunmate's tasks. Unfortunately, the DBF for the customers is over 22,000 entries and it's starting to becoming incredibly inefficient. I need to get her off DOS and into Windows XP. My question is, what is the best Salon software for Windows XP? My other question is what software best handles DBF file conversion? Most Salon packages I've looked as so far want me to send in a copy of the database so they can convert it over themselves. Are there any good Windows-based Salon packages that include a tool to convert all the databases (packages, customers, etc.)? Any information would be greatly appreciated, as I can't stand Sunmate anymore. It simply has to go ><. |

Rep Power: 0 | A great question for Andy to answer. Andy is on his way home and will be more available to answer these tough questions. I attended his Helios seminar in Denver last Saturday (well worth the money!) and I am sure he will recommend Helios and be able to help you with the conversion. _________________ [ This Message was edited by: schoolboy on 2004-04-06 12:31 ] |

Rep Power: 20 | The reason most software companies prefer to do the import for you is that the database layouts change from version to version. If we were to provide a utility that would automatically import data we run the risk of you having corrupted data. Here at Nichesoft when we do an import for TanTrack, a developer literally oversees the process and will spot test data just to be sure everything went smoothly. Just as an example - our database might require a telephone number formatted xxxxxxxxxx but another program might allow a free form entry of the phone number field - maybe even a word stored there. We've seen that happen! So its best to be done in house as the database quality is extremely important. Just a side note, 20,000 entries is likely alot of old data too. Assuming you're talking about 20,000 customers. It may be well worth her while to filter out those customers who haven't been to the salon in years. It will make even a Windows based software package run much more smoothly in the long run. If you'd like a free demo of our software TanTrack, just visit our website: http://www.nichesoft.com |
