Andy,
I have went CalTan exclusive and since all their products have Barcodes I was thinking about converting all sales codes to the barcode #'s to help with when we convert from 9.4 to 11 and the use of barcode scanners. My question is this... Using a bottle of endurance for example. Presently our sales code is 114 and the inventory code is 114 as well. The barcode # is 675503 10448 If I was changing the sales code to reflect the barcode which #,s would I use. I'm assuming the 675503 is CalTans # and 10448 is the product #, is this correct? Then the next question would be how do i make these changes without messing up my inventory and sales code history reports? It's late and I'm rambling, hopefully this made sense.
Lee

First Lee ... you are missing a character ... UPC codes are 12 characters ... there is a leading 7 that you are missing ... 767550 is CalTan ... 310448 is the product in this case.

I have a utility that works with V9 to Change Sales Codes ... it changes the Sales codes, the Inventory Codes, the Transaction History and voids file, the Inventory Maintenance/Adjustments transactions and also allows restructuring of Description, Division and Departments.

If you are interested I could spend a half day with you when I am in CA in March and use this utility PRIOR to conversion to V10 or V11 ... to aid in a smooth conversion to Barcodes and V11. Call if interestede ... 317-529-0041.

Alternatively, bring up 114 ... TYPE in the 12 character barcode (do not leave the Sales Code field ... DO NOT SCAN the barcode (that will cause you to leave the sales code field) ... press F-10 Save and it ... you just copied the Sales code 114 to 767550310448 ... if you are OK with leaving the Inventory as 114 .. you are done ... if not then go to the Operations tab and scan or key the UPC code into Inventory Item 1 (or 2) which ever the 114 is currently in ... and save ... it will make a new Inventory code ... for the UPC code for the item ... now you will have to Adjustment in the currently inventory of 114 into the UPC Inventory code ... ok done with making the new code ... NOW bring up Sales code 114 ... go to Inventory tab and Delete Inventory Item 114 ... back to Financial and Delete Sales Code 114.

Your Sales History will be under 114 (my utility would have changed that) no problem with Sales Report it will be included ... EXCEPT the Sales by Sales Code and Department ... you will not be able to select 114 ... it is not in the current Sales Code file. Same thing with Inventory Adjustments .. will not be able to report on 114 (my utility would have changed that).

Hope this helps, and look forward to being of service if you deem it appropriate.

I am still checking my schedule as far as attending your training as well as having you come to my salon(s). As far as salescode/barcode and V11 conversions if I read it correctly the conversion with your utility needs to be made in 9.4 prior to upgrading to V11? If this is the case then I will have to resort to the next best alterntive since my new store will be opening in the middle of Febuary. Due to the new Chase merchant/EFT processing as well as 9.4 no longer being supported I will need to due a new install of V11. While on the subject of new installs that reminds me... I want to install V11 but copy my codes (but not my inventory and client info) from 9.4 to V11. Helios tech said the best way to do this is to install 9.4 1st, then due a restore from my existing store. After that, upgrade to V11 and at that point it will only be a matter of swapping out some empty data files to replace my full files. Does that sound correct and is that the most logical way to get to that point?

Upgrade you current location to V11 ... on the new store ... copy the Data directory to DemoData ... just in case you ever want it ... copy the BDB databases from the V11 CD to your data directory ...

Copy the Helios.mdb SalesCode.mdb and InvT.mdb from your current stores V11 Data directory into the new store Data Directory ... I have asked Helios for an Utility to "RESET" Inventory values ... that would NULL out all Qty and Data fields within the Inventory table inside Invt.mdb and allow a fresh start ... easy Access query if you have Access2000 ability.

Call if you require further assistance ... and SEE YOU AT THE TRAINING ... lol
