Rep Power: 0 | Hello to all the TanTalk Forum members! I am a new member as 12/5/03 and I must say that I am very happy to have come across this site. From reading over the various post in your Tech Forum, I can see that your knowledge, Andy, is looked upon with high regard and I want to go ahead say thank you for the helpful information I have already received and for any I might receive in the future. Thanks! Now, I have a few questions for you if I may. I will first try to give you a little background history about my salons. I have been running my first salon for about a year now. We do hair, nails, tanning, etc., as well as sell products to compliment the services we offer. We have 2 PCs at this location. Our main PC, located at the front desk, consist of a 2.4Ghz P4, 512MB PC3200, 80GB HD running Windows XP Pro with Helios ver 10.2.0 with the "white dongle". Our 2nd PC ,which we just installed in our office, is an IBM Netvista with a 1Ghz P3, 256MB SDRAM, 20GB HD running Windows 2000 Pro with the same version of Helios but no dongle. Yesterday, I was easily able to network these 2 PCs (using some helpful info I found here:>)but have not had time to see what it can do. The front desk PC is the server and the office PC is the client. So far, I have only verified that the office PC is using the DATA folder from the front desk PC by viewing client info. We opened the same client's file on both PCs and the client had 5 tans left. He tanned, reducing his remaining tans to 4, and both PCs now reflected this. I am now thinking of networking another location just recently purchased so my customers can tan at either location. Just to let you know, the second location is a tanning salon only. We have an ADSL connection with a gurranteed(supposedly) minimum of 384Kbps upstream & downstream and max of 1.5Mbps, at each location. When we only had the one salon, we figured we might have more locations in the future, so we opted to go ahead and reserve a block of 5 consecutive static IPs. 2 are now being used at our first location and 1 at the second(new) location. Both salons use the T-MAX PRO timer but they do not have the same type of beds or number of beds. Now, here are my questions. Does it matter if we do not have the same type and/or number of beds at each location? Will there be a problem with tan codes or will they work at either location? What common problems do you think we could run into? We want to upgrade to 11. Should we wait and try to set up the WAN(if able to) after we get 11 or can we just set it up now with 10.2.0 and upgrade to 11 later. Would we have to reconfigure the settings? Thats all I can think of right now but if there is any other information you can offer me to ease this process, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again, Shack |

Rep Power: 25 | LAN ... sharing the Helios Data Directory on the LAN Server and Mapping it on the workstation does the trick ... using Multi Users Setup to point the Workstation to the mapped Data Directory ... thus you can see the data. A that point to can look and run all reports ... in order to be able to Add a Client and process POS transaction you have one more step to complete ... You need to go into the System Setting/Defaults and on the Site Info tab set up a second System File record for the workstation ... then on that second system file record """ NOT THE DEFAULT or SERVER's """ record ... set it to LAN ... CLIENT and provide the IP address of the Server (in V9 you could also give Server Machine Name ... IP Address only in V10/V11 ... and better to use IP Address in V9 as well ... but Machine Name of Server will work in V9). This is providing the source of authentication for the Dongle (Hardware Key) and the location of the Timer Manager. With this completed you will not longer be in Demo mode on the Workstation and you will be able to send tanning transactions to the Timer Manager ... not necessarily necessary from a back office ... but them's the facts. Tech Support can help you thru the sets above. _________________ Andy Thompson Authorized HELIOS Independent Consultant 877-777-6717 andy@atso.ca ACT Help Desk[ This Message was edited by: Andy @ ATSO.ca on 2003-12-08 17:53 ] |

Rep Power: 25 | WAN ... V11 POS will be available before Christmas. V11 WAN is tentatively scheduled for Feb/Mar I suggest you move forward with V10 and WAN before season and do the V11 upgrade at a time that is convenient and logical for you after the V11 WAN becomes available. Give me a call if I can assist moving you forward in this direction. |
