Rep Power: 22 | used the Star (sold by helios) in the past and it's horrible. what other receipt printers are you using that seem to work well. i was looking into the Epson ones, but they're a little pricey. also, what's the opinion of an electrical cash drawer vs. a money tray in drawer? will any cash drawer work with helios or will i need some special "code" like the thumbprint readers? |

Rep Power: 25 | There is propriety code build into Helios that relates directly to the Star printer. Some other printers will work (in Star mod) but VERY few of these will also work with a Cash Drawer. One desirable option is the use the Star Thermal printer TSP200 series .... better in my opinion than the Dot Matrix printers that you describe as horrible. Regardless of which model you choice ... you MUST use the Windows Generic Text Only print driver NOT any Star driver ... and DO NO change the name from Generic Text Only when (or after) installing the printer in Windows You can source the Helios recommended printers and Cash Drawer from POS World for nearly half the price Helios quotes. http://www.posworld.com/index.html ... check the Cash Drawer and Receipt Printer pages I am a little lost on your question about electrical cash drawer vs a money tray in drawer ... most cash drawers from POS World will work .... BUT IT MUST have the Star Interface. _________________ Andy Thompson ACT Business Solutions Toll-Free 877-777-6717 andy@atso.ca ACT Help Center [ This Message was edited by: Andy @ ATSO.ca on 2003-08-11 05:26 ] |

But now that i think about this; if that is in fact the case, why is one able to use any printer installed for reports in Helios? or is the propriety code limited to the receipt and cashdrawer connections? |

Rep Power: 25 | Helios have coded the printing of receipts based on the emulation of the Star Printer ... and opening the Cash Drawer is hard coded to the ESC code used by the Star printer interface for a Parallel Star Receipt Printer. |

Rep Power: 22 | got a few choices of electronic cash drawers picked. my questions: does the helios software actually open the drawer at the end of a sale? does it log how many times the drawer is/has been opened? and is it possible to open the cash drawer without a sale transaction, say to make change or something? would all these models work on this page? http://www.posworld.com/ms-cashdrawer-star.html[ This Message was edited by: SunDizzy on 2003-09-26 02:18 ] |

Rep Power: 25 | Helios does not track the number of times the Cash Drawer is opened BUT it DOES TRACK each time the Cash Drawer is opened using the F3 function ... NO SALE ... being the second part of your question. There is a No Sale report in the Management Reports which lists each such occurance. All of the Cash Drawers above state they are connect to the Star Receipt Printer CD Port so that should work. The recommended printer is the Star SP216 Parallel (the TSP200 Thermal series also works). |
