Rep Power: 0 | Mitzi, For salon use, we have been purchasing the cheapest LCD's we can find. Be aware, when you buy the cheapest components, you have to consider them disposable, as your not going to get tech support or warrenty replacements on this stuff. As far as LCD's go, you should always ask the store what the replacement policy for dead pixels is. On an LCD when a pixel doesn't work, it doesn't go black, it's bright white! The cheaper models usually have to have 5-7 dead pixels before they will exchange it. Specs on an LCD are the contrast ratio (350 and up is good) and the brightness which is usually measured in nits. The brighter and higher contrast ratio usually result in a better appearing picture and color responce. Refresh rates and resolution (the usuall specs for monitors) don't really apply on an LCD. The resolution is fixed, and the dot pitch (the size of each pixel, defined by the resolution and screen size) doesn't usually apply, because you know the max resolution of the screen. If it looks good in the store to you, you will be happy with it until it breaks. Of the 20 or so LCD's we have purchased over the past year, only one has had problems (4 of those are KOGi brand, and I have to say, they are the worst of the lot, but are functional, btw, the 1 problem was a KOGi LCD). If your going to be reading a LOT, I would seriously look at a better screen. If your only going to be putting people into beds with your salon software, go for the cheapest! |

Rep Power: 0 | Go with an NEC monitor, great price, reputation, and warranty support. The NEC LCD1560 or the new NEC Accusync LCD5-V are great choices that should be readily available for less than $299. You can PM me if you would like to purchase one (the day job is at a computer wholesale company) or get it from www.cdw.com. |
