I understand that V10 is now being shipped to new Helios Users.

The Helios website now displays a graphic image of the V10.0.62 Client Profile screen, although if you click on the image to see a full sized display of same you get the V9.4 screen shot (as of date and time of writing - Fixed now 8am 11/8/02 - well sort of - right image but basically the same size).

The issues raised in early July regarding this POS screen layout remain 100% unaddressed, they were and are as follows:

1. The Client Photo has been moved to the Checkin tab making taking or using a photo for verification purposes difficult and/or ineffective. May sell more Thumbprint readers though.

2. The User Defined fields including Skin Type have been removed from the primary Client Profile - Point of Sales Screen. In V10.0.45 they were moved to More Info, many users use one or more of these fields for info that should be immediately viewable in the POS activity without clicking to another tab and then back again. This has added unnecessary keystrokes to the POS activity and more likely will cause staff to not view significant data as directed by Management.

The two new email fields are FAR less important to the POS activity than the User Defined fields, in this one man's opinion. The two phone numbers could easily fit on one line.

3. The Customer Balance Owing info has been split into two places. The Balance Due and Due Date are on the POS screen, the current Payment Due is on the More Info screen (V10.0.45) and the Visits Till Due have been entirely omitted (again V10.0.45) ... unable to confirm they remain that way in V10.0.62 until I have a copy of the latest release to review, but they are not on the POS screen.

4. The Date fields beside PrePaid$ and Bonus Bucks serve no purpose.

5. The Sales Code Field (Code) in both the Current Session POS display and the recent History POS display are FAR to small. They only allow about 6 or 7 characters of the 13 field length to be displayed.

6. The Method of Payment "M" field remains displayed in the POS current session area and is not displayed in the recent history POS area ... that is reverse of what is appropriate. The Method of Payment info is recorded with the F5-End Sale function. While transactions remain in the current session area there has been no Method of Payment recorded. When it is recorded then transactions are no longer applicable to the current session.

The LARGE BLACK VOID that is displayed on the Client Profile screen when no client has been selected appears to me to be a significant waste of space. Why not display Bed Status info in this area ... that way something of value would always be on the screen.

Any clarification on the above that anyone can get that is attending the Nashville show would be appreciated.

Got my email from Tony about the version 10.
Not crazy about having my account charge $895 if I fail to return the vs 9 dongle..
They are also discontinuing support on vs 9 june 30, 03....
As long as there are no hidden date problems with vs 9, I will stay with it even without support...
When is Michaels software coming out.....
Tommy

Anyone remember reading anything about a $895 charge for a dongle in their contract?

summrtan:

The $895. will be covered in the document that you sign and send in requesting the V10 upgrade.

Everyone currently on the Software Maintenance Plan will receive a letter advising that V10 is available as a FREE upgrade and the conditions related to acquiring same.

You will sign a form agreeing and they will ship you the V10 upgrade and new dongle with the understanding that if you do not return the V9 dongle within 30 days they have the right to charge your "account" with the 895 until you do return it.

The email that Tony sent also states that the new dongle will function with both V9 and V10 software ... so there is not need to actually convert to V10 immediately just switch dongles.

If it is as it was with the Vegas release (V10.0.45) if you do install V10 on your operating system to give it a test and check it out, you will have to install a V9 upgrade (V9.4.5 ... which was on the V10.0.45 CD in an Upgrade directory) this new version of V9 is the same as V9.4 with the exception of at least one different "dll" (system program library file)(which was updated with the V10 install and the new version is not compatible with V9.4) and also be aware that the SmartMail Wizard does not operate with V9.4.5 (as installed in July 2002) and you will get an very annoying pop message with every report you attempt to print (one click gets rid of that each time).

Sonshinetans:

I have tested moving the date forward with V9.4.5 to Nov 2003 without any date issues.

By that date Solarsoft clients will be enjoying some amazing options.

CAUTION: if you do decide to go ahead with the V10 dongle order ... when you are about to switch the dongle, mark one or the other to identify which is which ... just to avoid a little confusion. One new user that has received a V10 dongle describes then as being identical to V9. Now this is not a big issue because the V9 dongle will not work with V10 but a simple mark may avoid some frustation if they did get mixed up.

The email I got from Tony said that V9 users with a service agreement will automatically be shipped the V10 dongle without actually requesting it. If you stay with V9 and they stop supporting it next year, will you have the option of cancelling the service agreement without a penalty? I'll see what they say in Nashville this weekend. Tammy

Here is the text of the email that another Helios User received.

Quote:
Dear Helios Members,

Membership does have its privileges! CIT, LLC is proud to announce that
Helios version 10 is currently being shipped to our new customers. Experience the benefits of maintaining your active software maintenance
agreement by requesting your FREE upgrade. Customers who are currently
enrolled in our software maintenance program will begin receiving a letter
similar to this email the week of November 25th. Anyone who attends the
Nashville show may request their upgrade at the Helios booth. We will
begin shipping conversion programs the week of November 18th.

We want to ensure that only active Helios customers like you will receive
and enjoy the additional features and benefits of version 10. As a result,
we will be shipping you a new version 10 copy protection device (dongle).
You will need to return your version 9 dongle within thirty (30) days from
the time you receive your upgrade otherwise we will debit your account $895 until your version 9 dongle is received. We will include a shipping label
with your version 10 dongle to use to return the version 9 dongle so you
will not incur any shipping costs. The version 10 dongle will run both
version 9 and version 10 so we recommend that you change dongles as soon as you receive your new one.

In order to continue providing the best technical support in the industry,
support for version 9 will be discontinued June 30, 2003. We have chosen
this date in order to coincide with Microsoft's end of product life cycle
phase out of Windows 98 support. Helios version 10 will only be supported
on Windows 2000 and Windows XP Professional.

The industry's best software continues to get better, so get yours today!
We appreciate your loyalty and look forward to serving your software needs
in the future.

Sincerely,

Tony Toepfer,
President and Helios User

Note that the first paragraph says that a letter will be sent during the week of Nov 25th or you can request the upgrade at the Nashville Show.

The second paragraph says the dongle will be shipped to all active clients (meaning those with a Software Maintenance Agreement currently in force). Tammy, I am pretty sure you will have to sign an agreement agreeing to the $895. charge if you do not return the V9 dongle, and that that form will need to be signed and received by Helios before they will ship the V10 dongle ... only makes sense.

Based on past practise, you can cancel your Software Maintenance Agrement will Helios at any time, without penalty. The penalty becomes a factor if and when you wish to REINSTATE your Software Maintenance Agreement to receive a future upgrade version and/or Technical Support from Helios.

Have a great show, and say Hi to everyone at Helios for me.

Agreed ... AND THE BEST IS ABOUT TO GET BETTER ... just wait until you see the new Price Grid function that will be contained in an upcoming update to V11.

It was sent to me last evening for review and testing ... it is still a work in progress ... BUT very exciting and MEGA powerful.

ONE TANNING Sales Codes that can control the impact on all accumulators AND ALL Memberships
