Rep Power: 0 | I need to modify the client release form and for some reason I don't have Word Pad on my computer. I talked at length with Microsoft earlier in the week and after they all stopped marveling at how they've never seen this happen they told me just to reinstall my XP Pro disk. I did and it's still not there. Well, I'm sick of making long distance phone calls to them because they just keep insisting that it has to be there so I'm asking for help here instead. I did a search to find the file on my own and also with the tech guy on the phone and there simply is no wordpad.exe file to be found. The goofy thing is (and I couldn't tell this to microsoft) is that I used the same disk to upgrade another computer and the word pad is fine. Here's the main question: can I move word pad from one computer to another? I don't want to remove it in case that computer needs it for something but can I copy it or something? Or, can I modify the release in the computer that I have the Helios demo installed and than replace the same (unmodified) file in the salon computer? If anyone can understand my question and can help me I'd really appreciate it. Tammy |

Rep Power: 25 | Tammy, you can most certainly modify the documents on the other computer and then save (replace) them back onto you main system. They are located in the C:Program filesHelios9 directory The Release is "release.rtf" (rtf standing for Rich Text Format). If you use the contract forms - same issue here - documents are Contract1.rtf thru Contract5.rtf Last week I was onsite in NJ with a client - they also had XP Pro systems - Wordpad was not to be found on that system either. BUT ... an OEM version of MS Word was installed on the system. That works fine JUST BE SURE not to change the type of file. Opens ok in Word, edit it, and save it back (DO NOT change the file type to DOC must be RTF) Also no sense changing the Margins - Helios will only print these documents with 1" Margins. Hope this helps ... _________________ Andy Thompson ACT Business Solutions Toll-Free 877-777-6717 andy@atso.ca ACT Help Center [ This Message was edited by: Andy @ ATSO.ca on 2002-08-29 11:35 ] |

Rep Power: 0 | Thanks Andy for the info. When I try to open the release to modify it I get "word pad not found" but I know it's there. I remember Helios telling me something about having to copy and move it because Helios looks for it in a place that it does not naturally occur in Windows XP. Any insight on this? Also, if that's the case, how do I perform this copy and move? Thanks, again! |

Rep Power: 25 | If you have located Wordpad.exe on your computer then you can put a copy of the program into the following directory, this is were Helios is looking for Wordpad.exe C:\Program Files\Accessories or just go to the Helios9 directory in C:Program Files and open the RTF document called Release.rtf. If you have Wordpad or Word installed on that system it will open it. If you have to use another computer that does have Wordpad or MS-Word two approaches: 1. install Helios on the second computer follow the steps above and then copy the Release.rtf file to a diskette and copy (replace) the file to/on the first computer. 2. copy the Release.rtf file to a diskette, take it to your second computer, open it from the diskette - edit it, save it back to the diskette and then copy (replace) the file to/on the first computer. With the desired file hightlighted use the Edit Menu to copy and paste or you can get the functions by Right clicking on the file or use Ctrl-C / Ctrl-V to copy and paste. Three way to copy and paste (save/replace) a file, you pick it. Hope this helps ... _________________ Andy Thompson ACT Business Solutions Toll-Free 877-777-6717 andy@atso.ca ACT Help Center [ This Message was edited by: Andy @ ATSO.ca on 2002-08-30 13:25 ] |
