Like all programs there is both good and bad with it. The problem right now is there is no way to do returns. Have you found a way? Of course I can always do it through master edit and transactions But this is not an acceptable solution when you have employees. I'd love to hear how any other salons deal with the problem. Once again, I do have Helios 9.4 and unless I'm missing it there is no way to do this, (when I called helios they said they will address it in version 10

Summrtan - you know it, this is ONE pain in the you know what.

I have for sometime suggested to Tony at Helios that Helios BADLY needs the ability to handle Return Goods.

A number of my clients also have significant product lines such as Gifts, Clothing etc that create more Return situations than may be applicable to Tanning Lotions.

If they are saying it will be addressed in V10 - that will be FANTASTIC.

Here is what I have suggested to Helios before, it REALLY is very simple.

Allow the F8-Qty on the Cashier Screen to accept a Negative Quantity. If the qty entered is negative, ask an additional question - "Do you wish to return this quantity to Stock?"

If answered "Yes" then also create a "Received" Inventory adjustment with a Description of "Returned to stock from Client 9999" where 9999 is the client # of the customer returning the product. If the product is not resaleable answer No and the item will be written off.

You should also be able to "F9-Discount" the price to be credited. The Commission applicable to the Sales code would also apply to this Credit transaction.

Now in the meantime

Set up a Sales Code "REFLOT" Refund on Lotion.

Everything the same as a normal product except No Default Price, Price Type set to Variable - allowing you to enter the amount of the Credit at the time of the "sale" (enter the minus sign after the amount - easier).

You can also set the Description Type to Variable to allow the Casher to enter the Product description of the item being returned - if you wish also set a display message on the Operations tab to remind the Cashier to enter the description.

Set the Minimum to the greatest amount of a "Refund" that you wish to give - for example -50.00 ... if you leave it at 0.00 you can not give a refund.

No Inventory Item 1 or 2 on the Operations Tab - you will have to do an Inventory Adjustment to put it back in stock if it is being restocked.

Couple of additional tricks here.

If the client is buying something else and being given a credit for the return. You could just discount the new item. If you do not want to do that. Sell the new item first, then in the same sale (before F5-End Sales) do the REFLOT transaction it will subtract from the new sales for a net total. If you enter the Refund first the system will demand you F5-End Sale on the Negative total before entering anything else.

If they are not buying anything else, and you do not want to give a Cash Refund. You can do an "InStore Credit" by processing a Prepaid transaction first for the value of the credit you are going to give them. Then enter the REFLOT transaction and the total sales value will be ZERO .... but the client will now have Prepaid $$$'s to apply to a future purchase.

Hope this helps ...

Thanks Andy!

As always, you are a great help to all of us. I actually have a folder which I keep with all of your 'fixes'.

Someday I will holepunch them and put them in a notebook. (someday....)

Yes it does help for now, Thanks Andy. As for Helios saying it would be addressed in version 10 they said this around the time of Nashville 2001, they also said it would be version 10 the 2nd edition, I wonder if the fact that it is still not released, that maybe it's addressed in 1st issue and not 2nd? Whew! Did that make any sense? lol Thanks again Andy

Darn, you had me excited that maybe just maybe it would happen in V10 ....

Helios V10.0.45 that was distributed at the Vegas show DID NOT address these issues, nor the many issues related to Average Cost and Cost of Goods - see separate thread on this topic. All of which were reviewed again with Tony during my visit to his office at the end of March 2002.

At the Nashville 2001 show what Helios referred to as V10 2nd edition (as I understood it) was the initial Access based WAN product.

The current timeline on either V10 or V10 WAN is unclear.

My bet at this point is Nashville 2002 - well at least then the Nov 9th date quoted for V10 to ship would be accurate - just needed to adjust the year.

I would be surprised if the V10 WAN product has a different POS (basic V10) module ... so we will just have to wait for V10 to be "released" to see what it has and does not have compared to promises and expectations (not to mention Data Encryption).
