I heard so much bad stuff on windows ME that I decided to change my os to win 2000
After loading the software it gave me a choice of either using me or 2000
when I selected 2000 it went through the regular process of booting up and came to the windows screen.
I loaded my helios 9.2 vs and at the end when it should have completed the load it gave me the prompt that it could not register some library file, and that it could not register two more files ( i forgot)
needless to say helios would not load this way. What do I do, stay with ME or is their something else I should be doing.
thanks in advance.

Tommy, I have gotten that error message also when loading Helios onto a Windows 2000 system - but only one not two. Helio has always run for me regardless of this one error upon installation.

You may have a Rights issue, are you logged in as Administrator, this is advisable while loading Helios. If you are logging in as another user then you will also have to ensure that user has rights to the Helios Directory.

Also,
Make sure that you disable your virus scanner temporarily while you install, they can sometimes interfere with the dll's self registering.

I expect that you will need the latest drivers for the dongle. You can find a link to those on the Solarsoft website.

Thanks John, good suggestion re the virus checker.

Have never had a problem with the Dongle Drivers on Win2000. (just XP)

Tommy, be aware - if you are using a Receipt Printer - many Users do experience a format problem when using Win2000. Helios Tech Support offer no direction on this expect telling you to uninstall the Generic Text driver and reinstall it.

thanks guys.
if it were you, would you stay with ME or install win 2000

Win2000 is a far superior operating system to Win ME.

XP is another consideration, but perhaps we should not open yet another consideration.

Are not computers wonderful.

Andy,
I've had problems with Helios 9.25 and W2K and sometimes WME. 9.4 seems to work fine out of the box on W2K or WME. With any version of Helios, the only way to get it to work is with the newest dongle drivers. Since I mainly deal with XP nowadays it's a habit to load the latest drivers.

and a good habit it is

Win ME is the worst OS Microsoft ever released. The reason you get ME and 2000 on boot-up is because you have installed both OS's on your computer, (which is my argument for why you should always do a clean install). as long as its been since you made this post i cant offer any advice for i do not know your current situation.
