Rep Power: 25 | NJDave: Today, I believe that Helios is still in fact the best POS software available to the Tanning Industry. It is, in my opinion, the most flexibility and provides the best controls to manage your salon. It has been the cleanest, crispest POS system for many years ... thus my support of it. The new V10 release in November 2002 still has much work to be done, particularily in the reporting area and the POS Screen has beginning to loose some crispness. One of the biggest shortcomings that Helios has is their approach to Technical Support ... it began to improve back about three years ago, but they appear to have again fallen into the world of recorded responses ... most likely due to signigicant problems supporting V10 ... that must be trying. NOW, it will be a PLEASURE later this year when I will honestly be able to stop saying that ... the POS system that Solarsoft will release, SALON WORKS will be the next generation in Client and Business Management for the Tanning Industry ... but it is TODAY still under development. Hope this helps ... _________________ Andy Thompson ACT Business Solutions Toll-Free 877-777-6717 andy@atso.ca ACT Help Center [ This Message was edited by: Andy @ ATSO.ca on 2003-03-11 04:43 ] |

Rep Power: 0 | Andy: A friend of mine is a manager at a local salon, she called me last week and asked if i could upgrade their computer to Win 2000, so she could install V 10.7. After some upgrade issues and formatting the hard drive, we installed version 9.4 restored the back up, it is running just fine. I then installed V10.7 and attempted to use the conversion utility on the CD, per the instruction manual. Everything seems to go OK until i click on the convert button. The conversion tool then gives me a Run-Time Error: '75'. This is a run-time error in the conversion tool not in windows. Any ideas on what the probplem might be? |

Rep Power: 26 | I remember being criticized one year ago online and privately when, as a newbee to this industry, I wrote that there is no way I would ever use Helios. Nothing I read or heard then about Helios passed the smell test. Bad fruit from a rotton tree. Quote:... how to circumvent the problem? Don't use Helios. Tell Helios to stick their dongle where the sun won't shine! Current users are between a rock and a hard place. Bad tech support on V.9 (soon to be none) and a bad option for upgrade. Tell your friends. Friends don't let friends use Helios. _________________ Jim. Entrepreneur Extraordinaire [ This Message was edited by: Ezliving_Jim on 2003-04-12 10:56 ] |

Rep Power: 25 | Sorry for the delay responding d3v1l6oy ... been on vacation for the last week. Interesting regarding the Runtime 75 error ... I have VERY limited experience converting V9 databases to V10 ... in my opinion V10 is not yet a place an experienced Helios Users wants to be. The couple of test converts I have done on client data did process successfully but that was as I said VERY limited. Sorry, I really do not have any solution , expect of course, the recommendation to stay on V9. |
