Rep Power: 24 | I think helios needs a wake up call! If the product doesn't meet our needs it gets replaced! Do we need to originize a helios upgrade boycott? Or will the "improvement" in helios 10 improve it right out of business? Thanks for the info, I bet helios never told anyone they tampered with "our" data files. If this is the case they need to explain it to us why. |

Rep Power: 25 | To update the info in this thread: The encryption has been removed by Helios after 10.0.45, which was distributed at the Vegas show. 10.0.62 still had some impact ... the encryption was removed but the Address on the client list was printed encrypted ... all record of encryption removed in 10.0.70 Current versions being shipped are 10.0.81 and 10.0.82 likely 10.0.82 now ... I have not seen this version yet and can not comment on it till I do ... Helios advise users that all prior V10 issues have been addressed/corrected ... that will be VERY good news. BUT, the reports in V10.0.70 are MAJOR crap ... so if they have resolved that it will be a very good thing. If you install V10 to take a look on a system also running V9 you will need to drag and drop the Helios9 executable on the V10 CD in the Ugrade directory to the Helios9 folder. V10 upgrades some library system files used by V9 and V9.4 is not compatible with them but V9.4.5 on the V10 CD is (almost) ... V9 Smart Mail will not run with V9.4.5 but is operational again in V10.0.70 +. You will get a Videosoft vsocx upgrade message on all the V9 reports in V9.4.5 ... which I guess you could upgrade for $156.USD ... NOT ... just click the X in the upper right corner, closing the message and report generates as normal ... just an annoying little message. The dongle that comes with V10 also works with V9, BUT the V9 dongle will NOT work with V10 ... so switch the dongle immediately upon receipt and return the V9 dongle to Helios to avoid the $895. charge from keeping the V9 dongle more than 30 days. Issues, in my opinion, major issues with V10 up to and including V10.0.70 ... see other thread regarding issues, POS screen layout etc. Looking forward to getting V10.0.82 to evaluate the improvement that Helios have made therein compared to their statement that all is resolved ... had to chuckle, they told many users there were no issues with V10 over the last 3 months since it's release just prior to the Nashville show ... now all those "no issues" have been corrected ... honestly, I do hope so ... but we will see. Helios V10 only operates with Windows 2000 (Service Pack 1 or greater) and Windows XP Professional. Be sure your operating system meets these requirements before you start the install or upgrade process. _________________ Andy Thompson ACT Business Solutions Toll-Free 877-777-6717 andy@atso.ca ACT Help Center [ This Message was edited by: Andy @ ATSO.ca on 2003-02-04 09:57 ] |

Rep Power: 25 | Gene, Helios stated wrongly that V9.4 would not run with Windows XP Home. Using the compatability mode V9.4 will install and operate properly (with a little Windows twicking) on both XP Home and Pro. NOW HELIOS V10 ... that is another story ... and honestly I have not had the occasion to attempt to install it on XP Home ... but my understanding and the V10 manual states that V10 will only install on a system running Windows 2000 or XP Professional. With Windows 2000 you must also have applied Service Pack 1. |

Rep Power: 25 | As I understand the logic as to why ... because the only difference between Home and Professional are additional functions and features in Professional that are excluded from Home ... is the intent, which I do not believe is actually operational yet in V10 to allow the user to access the Helios V10 Reporting Engine over the internet ... the web interface application they plan to use to provide this planned ability is not included in the Home edition of XP. Assumption on my part as to the reason, but I believe I am close if not totally correct. |

Rep Power: 107 | With all of these comments, I have to agree with most of you and stick with Ver. 9. If and when it comes time for new software, I'll be looking for something else. This is a bit disappointing, I have never had any major issues with Helios in the 4 1/2 years I've had it. |

Rep Power: 23 | I find Helios to be some of the rudiest people I have ever done business with. I plan to stay at Version 9.4 and I just recently cancelled my so called service contract. The program works well however the service stinks. I could not believe the nightmare they put me through when I went to Version 9.4. New computer and the whole works. Could not believe it.. |

Rep Power: 25 | and believe me it told me months and in fact years, including an 16 hour round trip drive to Chicago to get them (Helios) to have the final V8 and V9 as stable as it is ... not perfect, but the best Helios since the DOS days and MILES better than V10. |
