Tangirl,
I'd like to offer my technical advise regarding your new computer. If possible, do a full backup of the new system and the old system before you start to load any data from your old system to the new one. By doing the backup procedure you can prevent running into any trouble or "side effects" and you can always restore the new one back to its original configuration if a problem should arise.

If the operating systems are different between the two computers, you are going to only want to copy over data that you will really need (such as Helios data, and other important data you have on the old computer). Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Window ME, and Windows XP don't all share the same files and copying files into the windows directory can cause some very bad ju ju...

If you have virus protection software, Microsoft Office, or any other applications. Install them on the new first and then move only the data files over to prevent corruption.

You should be good to go....

Kent

I just installed all new computer systems at all our of resorts. Each is a P4 1.6 Mhz running Windows XP. This allows me to create an admin account easily on each system and a normal account the employees use. The normal account will not allow them to change the computers clock or install software.

I also have Internet Explorer locked down so that it only goes to approved sites which includes or corporate website and our ticket tracker. ( corp.sandollar-resorts.com )

Chippp - I have XP Pro still sitting in the box. I'm still in limbo as to whether I should use it or not. How have you done with it so far? What version of Helios are you running with it?

Kent - Thanks for the tip. The main reason that I am getting rid of the old computer is backup problems. The only thing that I actually want to copy from it is my Helios data. There is absolutely nothing else of any value on this computer. I know for a fact that the operating systems are different. So, hopefully all will go smoothly this evening. Otherwise, you'll all hear my crying later tonight.

tangirl, i have a P4 1.6 Mhz running Windows XP installed helios 9.4.0 ask helios to send you the CD.

The older versions of helios will not load in xp.

You will love XP pro ! very very very stable....4 months I have pushed the system
running, helios, music player, spread sheets, cd burning, web camera, scanner, printer, web, so on .......never had even one crash or lock up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do not try to back up your whole old system and copy it to the new one.........do a fresh install of xp pro if you can.
just install helios, then copy the helios d data files to the new system.

You will be very happy!

tangirl - heads up - do you have a Helios V9.4 CD that you used to install the Helios V9.4 program onto your new computer.

Another user did not and is having trouble with the dongle not registering with XP Pro on the new computer.

How do not have a Heart Attack. All worked out in the end and you may not have the problem.

I would also suggest moving and testing the Dongle and make sure it is working or get it working before you move your data.

Again all the best.

Chippp,
You are incorrect, Helios 9.1.2 and 9.2.5 both work great on XP. At Sandollar, we cannot use Helios 9.4 due to problems with the membership sales codes not working, so we are running a mixture of 9.1.2 and 9.2.5.

Our web site www.gosolarsoft.com has links to the dongle software under the downloads section (3rd party utilities). You will need the latest drivers for XP (we use both XP Pro and XP Home).

Another thing that helps is to load Helios using the software compatiblity wizard and telling the installation you are running on a Win 89/ME machines. Helios runs fine on XP, but the installation complains at serveral points running under XP.

One last point, the digital persona site (the last time I checked, which is about 2 weeks ago) mentioned that the thumbprint drivers did NOT work on XP. Since we have had lot's of problems (we know people who have had no problems) with the thumbprints, we don't know if they work or not. I would try the drivers off of the 9.4 disk (the only drivers that work with W2K and ME).

If anyone else has gotten the thumbprint to work, it would be nice to know how. If I have time, I'll play with it next week (I've got 6 thumbprints sitting in a drawer gathering dust).
