Just tell all staff the computer is for the salon software use only.
That homework, or other personal stuff is not to be done on the company computer ever.

I have stated this but as you may know you can't be there all hours. I know I have a guy who uses to do his computer homework on it but haven't been able to prove it yet. I even had him sign a letter.

there is software that tracks how the computer is used, even keeps a record of all key strokes, it runs hidden in the background...its made for catching these people!
Check a site like http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/

Windows Spy 1.003
Monitor a remote computer invisibly by streaming screenshots to a viewer on your computer.
OS: Windows 95/98/NT/2000

Win-Spy 5.0
Keep track of what happens on a PC with this key recorder and screen capture utility.

I thought that Helios requires the receptionist coming on duty to log in and use a password. I am about to purchase Helios software for my salon, have I misunderstood something here?

Helios is a Windows-base application with builtin security features. If the user has logged into windows (98, 2000, XP), all they have to do is minimize the Helios Application window and they still use the PC for other applications (i.e Homework or Surfing the web).

I would recommend to any salon owner/manager that they look into a PC Computer Policy/Procedures document to add to the employee handbook. Once an employee is hired, you can have them sign the document in which you have stated the allowed uses for any computer in the salon. Make it VERY clear on the wording that the employee will understand that he/she may face termination if the computer policy and/or procedures are not followed.[ This Message was edited by: Erebus623 on 2002-03-10 09:59 ]

Erebus623, has a great idea, I would just like to add a little to it. The policies and Procures idea is great; however it does not stop a person from doing what you do not want them to do, it only help you when you want to fire them or call to police.

I would suggest installing a policy manager on every computer that your staff has access to, another consideration would be to start using XP Pro, I understand that is has a great policy manager on it that may be easier to for salon owners to use.

If they can't get to it or see it, they can't break it or take it!

My problem is not with helios but they tend to bring their own disk and isert it in the zip drive do their homework on excell or word or an other program we have while they work. I don't want this and I was wondering if their was something to make them log on with a password or something. Also so they can't view letters I may be typing or docs. in word, excell, quickbooks etc.
