Black Friday as we use to know it is gone. Stores are starting their sales sooner every year.
About 4 years ago I changed, I now do a Holiday Sale.
I start it on the first Monday of November and run it thru December 31. If it does well , I will some times run it thru January.

Re: Black Friday 2

Starting in October we have one or two promotions a month. A lot of effort. But we do almost double our past sales. Promotion wise we work twice as hard in the off season for less than half the $$$ of peak season.

Don't get me wrong, we spend a lot of effort in peak season too. But as expected, the ROI is just not the same in off season. But the extra $$$ we bring in as a result in the off season is, IMO, worth it.

Running any promotion for an extended period of time is not a good strategy. You should create urgency with a promotion by putting an expiration date on it. Long promotions is a lazy way to advertise. A promotion that should be offered in December is certainly not the promotion that should be offered in January.

The end of December marks the end of the 3rd advertising season and January is the beginning of the 1st advertising season.

You may want to consider a more aggressive approach with shorter term promotions. This will gain better results.

Steve you are so full of it. or should I say yourself ?

Some specials are not all about the money, But rather treating your good customers some thing special for the Holidays.

You can still make money, But also give back and say thank you to the customers that pay your bills all year long.

Any salon owner that does nothing but try to grab grab grab will soon be gone.

My father taught me as a child, Takev care of the customers you have fisrt, then maby look for more.
So lay your B.S. SOME WHERE ELSE.

You are right, customer appreciation is an important part of marketing your business and customer retention. However like anything else it must be done properly in order to increase sales and retain tanners. When they are short specific time directed the are better received and don't get lost because you run it to long. I am really sorry you are so hurt by my knowledge of the tanning industry and how to effectively market a salon. We all have opinions, I appreciate all opinion, even yours.
