are points pricing systems better or just confusing?

It was mentioned to me, but I find it hard to grasp and wondering if I should even consider it

What are you comparing it too? There are three pricing structures- minutes, sessions, and points. If you do your research on them you'll find that the consensus is that salons make the most profit in order- points, sessions, and minutes.

I find points confusing but I'm sure it's because I haven't put the effort into learning the system. One thing I like about points is they allow you to upgrade easier without having to make a purchase every time you tan. On the other hand I like the fact the client is purchasing a upgrade each time they want to upgrade because it gives us the opportunity to sell them a lotion. Forgot to mention that I sell sessions.

Let me give this a try and see if you "get it"...we sell points (stars)....x amount of money, x amount of stars...packages range from $25 to $300. The more you buy, the steeper the discount on the stars. We have 6 differing tanning units, ranging from above average entry level beds to high pressure beds that tan you faster with less effort needed for maintaining your tan. Each unit we offer has a star value attached, so depending on which unit you tan in the computer simply subtracts the star value from your package, you can tan in any unit we offer. Units range from 2 to 6 stars each time you tan.

^^^^ ps....
It doesn't matter how many minutes you tan, you tan what your skin can safely tolerate...it's a session, x amount of stars off your plan.

Points are confusing but we find them beneficial, I actually used switching to points as a way of raising my prices without the customers knowing, Those who don't buy the monthly packages don't really know your prices off the top of their heads anyways as they're only in the store every other week or so. My points system and pricing is available on my website, islandtanz.com

thanks everyone for your comments, people understand value, bang for the buck, I'd like to raise my prices a little, but if on your end you "feel" you get for money, don't on their end they "feel" the get less for their money? their dollar goes less further for the same goods and services?

and how was the transition? was it met with resistance and losses of members? when did you implement and how long have you had that salon? how often do they "stay" in the bed they are accustom to? or do they simply upgrade themselves?( if they don't that means they want to "stretch" the points) and when they go up, do they even come back down?

David, you don't have spray tan ? no airbrush ? red light? etc? only UV?

confusion in the consumers mind will always lead to bad will and less sales! This is common knowledge in all retail sectors except for indoor tanning!

Hot, try not to engage with tony. He thinks his way is the only way in our industry and is very hard to follow.
