Re: Min. Wage

Put it this way, if the minimum wage goes up to $10-$12 an hour, there'll be 3 less part time employees working for me. I'll work all the hours myself. All this increase would do is give people more money to spend on things other then tanning. Who's fooling who here?

Also, some of the 9.99 a month people would upgrade more so everything increases. That is part of the theory of why minimum wage would not hurt so much.

We can say that the politicians are insulated from real world business experience but people in the business world are lining up in favor of the theory also. My belief is that this is one of those ideas whose time has come and there is nothing much you can do to stop it. Good or bad, and there will be both, I think the prudent thing to do is prepare for it. It is sort of like a tornado, you might not like it but that doesn't really factor into the decision about whether or not it comes to visit.
If the minimum wage goes up, then the 9.99 would go away as well.

From a economic perspective, forcing anyone to raised their costs of doing business without reason, will have serious negative consequences; 1) It will cause inflation in the prices of goods and services sold by the business, 2) It will lead to higher unemployment, 3) it will cause some businesses to go out of business.

It is the classic liberal answer to any problem; take money away from one group (business owners) and give it to another group (employees)

So, lets see I spent $70,000 in labor last year. What will my increase be thanks to all you liberals with my money:

$70k X %40=$98,000 increase of $28,000 (this is if you pay minimum wage)
$70k X %20=$84,000 increase of $14,000 (this is if you pay $8.25ish)

The only way to recoup this money is to raise prices. No way to charge a tax and blame it on the government. Wonder how many salons will close after this 20 to 40% increase is operating cost?
A measly 10%! -Give me that measly 10% then! Just think of what I could have done with the $4,000 check that I sent to the IRS for that measly 10% last week! I bet I could have stimulated the economy a little with it.

Raising prices cannot be our answer to all of our problems. As I have said before, we are pricing our non-necessary, luxury services above most peoples ability or desire to afford it right now.

There was some sarcasm in that statement because some on here seem to think it's ok to increase payroll 20 to 40% but not ok when the government imposes a 10% tax.

The statement that it's ok because we're giving the money to our workers and not the Feds themselves is retarded.

Lastly, how are you going to make for the difference? Will you raise your prices, cut positions, or not take a salary yourself?
Nothing wrong with your numbers.

When you send money to the Feds, dispite what they say you have no real idea where that money will go.
A wage increase puts the money back into your community. More money spent locally.

Raise prices? We all SHOULD. But it wont happen.
In 1994 I was getting $60 a month for an ets 24 lamp bed. Today, Half that for twice the bed. Makes no sence to me.

As far as cuts, I would shave an hour off of week nights and go 1/2 days on the week ends.

Re: Min. Wage

Computers with 1/100 the memory, storage and processor speed use to be 5k. Now they
are $400. Its about supply and demand. The lack of business sense out it utterly amazing.
This is why our industry is in trouble!

Raising the minimum wage would not eliminate the $9.99 concept. How can you come out here
and talk about the $9.99 when you have ZERO knowledge of the strategy behind $9.99?

We already pay $10+ per hour. This is the stuff that just makes my blood boil. Its more
"know it all's" that know NOTHING and speak as if they are "in the know"!

Re: Min. Wage

$4,000 check for the tan tax? If thats for an entire quarter then that means you only did 40k in tanning services over 3 months.

Not very impressive for a tanning salon expert such as yourself!

Your only strategy is to run alot of good people out of biz

I was simply looking for opinions on wages here and not your ranting............ If you have so much free time from all your stores, You might want want to run a spell check on your web site.

Going to $10 an hour would cost me about $800 a week. Ouch.

But if all min. wage workers went up would it not give give our clients more to spend in our stores ? Or because of the current economy do you think they would just save it ?

I would love to get my payroll down to $800 per week!

In the slow season we might get to $850 but this is the time of year when I average $1500 a week in Payroll.
