Re: Min. Wage

A $10 min wage would have no effect on our staff. We currently start our employees around $8, but, with commission added in, it's extremely rare that anyone makes less than $10 an hour. We would simply convert to a draw commission model if minimum wage went into effect.

Re: Min. Wage

In my opinion a sales draw wouldn't go over well with my staff, too confusing, and the concept of owing the business later would be a big turnoff. Keep it simple. Commission earned, commission paid. Or, in our case when minimum wage went up to $10+, we nixed commission and went to monthly sales bonus. Meet the target, get the bonus.

Spray tanning is not taxed, UV use is, if your paying a tax collect it from the customer minimum wage is an issue but thank Texans its not here YET, I think if you raise costs 10% it will offset the rise in minimum wage and employ better staffing quality. In no way will it unemploy more people that's ludicrous

Higher minimum rage will cost jobs. Thats already a proven formula.

You also wont get better workers because everyone has the same baseline so the crappy employees get the same wage as the good employees. Its pure socialism. The free market will always create a better business environment. Government intervention is not the answer.

Re: Min. Wage

Minimum wage in Ontario skyrockets to $14 an hour Jan. 2018 and then to $15 in 2019.

A "better business environment" will depend on the perspective.

Less output of $$ for employers - yes. Although payroll is tax deductible, so the total raise is minimized by some tax savings.

For industries that depend on a large proportion of customers that work in minimum wage jobs, they are likely to see an INCREASE in spending and revenues by their customers. For industries that do not, they won't see that bump.

Tanning is a "want", not a necessity. And tends to appeal to younger and lower/middle class customers - a large number that work in min wage jobs. The more "disposable" income that the customer base has, the better chance Tanning will get a larger percentage of it.

Overall, an already well-run and profitable salon is more likely to see a POSITIVE impact from a raise in min wage.

A salon that is already struggling with revenues and/or where payroll costs are already disproportionate to sales may not fare as well.

Re: Min. Wage

Our min wage is $12 per hr and going up $1 each year until it hits $15

With commissions my employees already make an average of $20-$22 per hr. Pay well for good employees and you will do well.

Higher min wage will just price a lot of lesser employees out of the market. Many of these people you see out protesting for higher min wage will never work again.

Re: Min. Wage

We are at 11.00 here in mass from 8.00. Is the employee any better at 8.00 then at 11.00? I don't think so it still the same old worker, still trying to get them to work is one thing to get them to work at your store is another. Mass looking to go to 15.00 an hour, this will definitely put me under.
