Rep Power: 20 | 2014 First Quarter The 2014 first quarter has been the highest grossing in many years for salons even with the crazy weather. It just shows if your salon is properly structured and you execute a great plan you can increase sales. In many cases salon sessions are down while gross sales are up. This is a result of a proper price structure and I think more responsible use by tanners. It is clear that making needed changes to struggling salons has turned things around for many salon owners. |

I'll bet you are on board with ASA supporting teen tan bans too. | |

Rep Power: 14 | Re: 2014 First Quarter Don't know where....the whole retail industry is down. More people purchasing on-line, and a negative media continues to bash the tanning industry (which is seasonal to begin with). And with beach season 6 weeks away (Memorial Day), I see business slowing down as it traditionally does this year. If the last 5 months were not profitable enough to sustain the next 6, I see more salons closing...in fact one local has already done that, as the flies continue to drop. I don't know of any local salons who can brag of better days. |

Rep Power: 20 | Re: 2014 First Quarter I can understand not wanting to focus on gloom and doom scenarios but, that has never been this industry's problem. Sticking our heads in the sand and acting like nothing is wrong has been this industry's mindset for the past 20 years. How is that been working out for us? I guess you can sing a happy song if your goal is to be the last man (or woman) standing at the end, but how does that really help anyone in the long run? We will soon end up like the banking industry; a 5 or 6 mega franchises that are totally regulated (and owned by the dermatology industry) and nothing else. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: 2014 First Quarter The biggest reason this season is down is the weather where most of us are in business. Obviously the other reasons we've been dealing with for 5 years now are having an impact (consumer confidence, low wages, tan tax, sunscare, ineptness of our own trade associations) but weather is the biggie this year. We've got 3 months left to make our numbers this year. Going to be initeresting... again. |
