I bet the bed sits empty for 3/4 of the year. In the meantime, you spent $30k for the bed and another 20k or more to upgrade your HVAC and Electrical systems to handle it. So, your at least 50k in the hole before you make a dime.

So, how many single visits will it take at $30 each to pay for the 50k+ investment plus the added costs of electricity, extra sqftage, buildout, expensive bulb changes, and maintenance to break even?

For me it took 18 months but my investment was just a little over 40k and I only charge $28 for a single visit. That was 10 years ago, Cost over the last 8.5 years for lamps and maintenance, has avg. about $2500 a year. Only major repairs I have had to do in 10 years replaced 2 lift motors and rebuilt lift system.

Re: Pricing a High Pressure Bed

I charge $35 single session for my Matrix L33's. 5 for $135 and 10 for $245. I started with HP in 2003 and yes I upgraded electric, expanded rooms etc. but we have carved out a niche HP business. We tan 85% of customers in HP beds. Frankly, without it I'm not sure I would still be profitable and interested/involved with this industry.

And there's an example of evolution and adaptation that worked for that salon owner. Good job. It's not the answer for everyone, but you did something.

Re: Pricing a High Pressure Bed

I have 2 HP beds and hoping to add a 3rd. Only get an Hp bed if you understand how they work and if you have people who understand how to sell them. I also charge 32 a session.
