Tanning software

Just starting a new tanning salon. We purchased from an existing owner who did everything off line. We are using a stand alone timer ( Questar database 10000) to control the beds, but need a customer database to manage preferences, profiles, products, etc...

I have investigated software but all the ones I have seen have monthly fees and or huge upfront costs. Are there any pretty good and also reasonably priced (or free:) standalone basic Software? Or has anyone created their own basic spreadsheet or database for general customer profile management? Paying all costs for the business out of pocket so we are trying to mitigate costs at start up. Hopefully things go great and we can afford awesome software that makes our salon more profitable, but for now just trying to break even.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks. I didn't think so, but figured to check. Any recommendations on effective and economic software options? I am in Illinois near Joliet.

Re: Tanning software

The only ones that I know of that allow to you purchase and own the software are Sunease (not recommended) and Tan Track. I have used both and Sunease leaves a lot to be desired from a report stand point and if you have to charge state and federal tax, it won't seperate, you will have both taxes for everything in your sytem, not just the tanning part. Tan track was easier for the reports and an overall easy system to learn to use too. Just make sure you are backing up your entire system very regularly for either option.

I use to live in IL. It was the birthplace of Helios! But these are
no real good software choices in tanning salon software anymore.

Innovation has decreased and costs have increased!

Re: Tanning software

i just bought tan track a week ago. I just took over a salon from my mother and it as well has been ran offline for years. I got the tan track demo disk to try it which was useful to get basic knowledge on the program however the demo doesn't do half of what the actual software does. The Only issue I have with tan track at this point in time is the timer queue. If the timer and new software are hooked together even if you unplug the cable running to the timer from the computer your timer is bypassed and wont start the beds. This is an issue if you're in a rush point with 6 customers in front of you and the computer is acting up. other than that the features of the software are awesome. once I get all of my clients in the new system I will have an easier time checking up on all aspects of the salon financially at the touch of a button. My salesman was Gabriel Cheney he's a sales manager and gave me 50% off the system and fingerprint scanner. I payed $956.00 out the door with shipping and tax

Re: Tanning software

Is there anywhere for a salon owner to receive training on using Tan Track software? I have a customer who "just can't figure out" how to set it up...any advise is appreciated.

Tantrack comes with 30 days of free customer support. They will set it up for you. I couldn't set it up myself however they make it easy. They take control of your pc and do the work for you. if you happen to already have your timers set up to the system they will even add customers to the system as you relay info to them and start the bed for you as well. I jokingly told the tech one time that I should just use a phone system for customers that come in to the salon and have a direct line to the tantrack tech center. they would be cheaper than paying an employee to log in customers!
