But when we had our last assist. manager she help my manger with payroll, scheduling managing our Facebook page and booking sprays. Now our owner took over the scheduling part cause we have two salons and two coffee shops. One of the coffee shops being in our salon, but just have him/her do what you need help doing each week! |

Her primary jobs are to manage our appointment book through our salon management software from SpaBooker, to make and pass out our work schedules, and to deal with any disputes between workers that don't require my direct involvement. She is without question my right-hand woman, and she makes my job a whole lot easier. |

Rep Power: 14 | Re: Assistant Manager Role If you are a one-shop operation, as owner, you should have total control of the business. There is no need to pay someone else to do what I do...and probably much better. What you save in extra salary could be a re-invest in the biz or added profit in owners bottom line. I could never understand why an asst mgr would be needed, unless you had muti-locations. For the short time a hands-on owner is not on site, a good trusted employee to be eyes and ears is all that is needed I have had small business' ranging from antique stores to hair salons to tan salons...never a need for 'assistant mgr', if you are a 'hands-on' biz owner. |

Rep Power: 22 | Re: Assistant Manager Role Just the title "Assistant Manager" implies a bigger wage. I agree with Black Sun, in that a hands on owner with only one location doesn't need an assistant manager. A good responsible employee will suffice. In my 27 years of owning a salon, I have never had a need for a manager of any kind. What really works well for me in the summer months is to have a college intern run the show for three months. I give them entire control of the operation, including scheduling, payroll, banking, ordering supplies, and just about everything else I do. This gives me a lot of time off, especially long weekends to spend at the lake. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Assistant Manager Role Just viewing your post, and thats exactly what I am planning to do this summer......get a college intern. Can you give me some insight as to what you offered as pay, bonuses, etc. When did they start? and 12 weeks? Did you do a low pay, with bonus ?? if sales were better than last year's summer months.....or what structure did you lay out. I do love the idea of someone else taking over and giving me time off, but I need to get organized as to their responsibilities before I post listing at area colleges. Thank you for anything you can throw my way to move asap. |
