As someone mentioned they were working on a large deal with a chain to put salons in their stores (much like the space they rent to other businesses at the front of the store). It stalled for some reason or another.

I opened back in 2007, had a good run til this past year with Planet Fitness opening and the economy tanking. My question to you that have been doing this for some time: Do I stay focused on the business, upgrading my equipment (I have great ProSun X5 & X7 plus Elixir and a pro Sun Delta, Norvell Spray tan booth) or do I just try to market the heck out of it in this economy? I stepped away part time from business to pursue massage and esthetician training, is it a good idea to offer that in a salon with tanning? Down to my last bit of savings that I managed to put away while economy was still good so want to make the right decisions here. Or maybe I sell and if so would it even be worth anything in this economy? I am so baffled any seasoned pro advice would be greatly welcomed. Thank you so much. |

Rep Power: 23 | Re: In biz how long........... Since the economy tanked I've closed 3 stores, Just kept my oringnal. Your spray tanning should help, demand seems to be increasing. I'm PF is not helping but if you have lost customers to them you should get atleast 1/2 back. my guess is that the economy is turning around and if not I think people will just get tired of not doing anything for 3 or 4 years and start living life again, and tanning. Hopfully the ASA that I posted about will have a little more clout than ITA. |

I have noticed a few clients coming back so you're right about that. And I definitely see spray tanning demand increasing. I just hope that this season proves to be a good one so I won't have to close my doors as well. It can be discouraging at times hearing all the tanning negativity in the media. Maybe I will try to bundle a package that includes massages, skincare and tanning then I, like, PF, can be exempt from the 10% tanning tax (wouldn't that be nice, ha!). |
