Salons and Mobile spray tanning

My question is this....I am wanting to expand my business and start working with salons. Currently, I am spraying friends and family and a few clients at my home. My town has a few salons that offer tanning and only ONE that offers booth spray tanning . I am wanting to approach these salons and offer my business, however, I am not sure how to go about it. Do I offer them a certain percentage of the spray tans I do at their salon or do a rental fee? I live in a town about 10 -15 mins outside of a large city and no one is spray tanning here or in the surrounding areas. I think I would be offering a great service. I am looking for people to bounds ideas around with. I am new to this community as well ( lived here less than one year).

Any advice on how to approach these salons?

No disrespect meant....but I thought this Forum was for tanning SALON owners, those of us who pay rent/mortgage on a building, along with all the taxes and licenses that come with that. Am I mistaken?

Re: Salons and Mobile spray tanning

I understand that and that is why I posted on this site. I wanted to get salon owners advice or suggestions, since they are who I would be approaching. Is everyone on here just completely against people that don't own a salon?!! My long term goal is to open a salon and I'm working towards that goal. I'm sure you would have or did appreciate any advice or help you received while building your business. I'm not trying to offend you or any other salon owner by posting on here. Just asking for some help. And mobile spray tanning is a business and just bc We might not pay rent we do put a lot of time and financing into it. It may not be close to what salon owners do but it's still a business to the owner. Everyone starts somewhere

This is not a "business" site. It's a salon owners site...unless I'm misinformed. The financial outlay from you, which may be sizable to you, does not begin to compare to what any of us has invested. There's a big difference between buying a gun and solution and buying or renting a building with 6-30 beds, insurance, utilities, staff etc. You joined 2 years ago. I know everyone starts somewhere; I'm relatively new here as well, having been in the business only four years. However I own a salon and all that goes with it. I'm not putting you down....rather, good luck with your business, it's just not a brick and mortar one. My girls have been taught to spray by someone certified to teach. I would think most of us here have gone that route.

If you think it would be profitable, find your own location. Invest in your business. Why be tethered to someone else's business plan? I have seen salons rent space to others and then once the clientele is establish, send that person on their way and keep the business.

Have you created a business plan?

Delany--thank you. I had a business plan together but since then my husband and I have moved and I put everything on the back burner. I am now ready to start things up again. Thanks again for your response.

This is a site for all tanning related business. With only 51 post under your belt, perhaps you should chill back and chill out awhile. Perhaps, you will learn a thing or two as well.

Re: Salons and Mobile spray tanning

Black Sun...I worded myself exactly that way. I specifically said I could be misinformed, and that I was not putting the poster down. I also stated that I was relatively new as well, hence 51 posts. If I personally take a bit of offense to anyone being able to pick up a gun and some solution and call themselves a business, that is my choice. Most here have an awful lot invested into our businesses, hundreds of thousands of dollars, and a lot of sweat. Sorry I offended you, or anyone else. I gave my opinion, that's all it was. I think you're rude to tell me to sit back and chill a while; since I only have 51 posts as you pointed out in four years, I've done exactly that.

Re: Salons and Mobile spray tanning

We in the UV tanning business call them them "Trunk Slammers" and most in the past have shown no respect, for us and our brick and mortar salons. The bad taste in our mouths comes from the fact that these little invested individiuals constantly bad mouth UV based tanning. Nothing more , nothing less. No disrespect here, but I wonder what lalaennie is telling her potental customers as to the effect of uv tanning vs uv free tanning.

Re: Salons and Mobile spray tanning

Blacksun, this is a tanning salon owners forum. The admins have stated numerous times that they do not allow trunk slammers on the forum. There are a handful of sunless salon owners on here.
