I know that the movie theatre in my area allows you to do advertising before the movie starts, and I have made note of myself enjoying watching the ads that come across the screen and commenting on them. Wondering if any of you have gotten into this sort of advertising, and what results were, I did call to get prices but have not received any calls back.
What do you think about this advertising idea?

for a couple of years we did a christmas ad with the local theater. i really don't know how well it worked because i didn't have a tracking system for it. my mother was the city manager for the chain and she always just did it for me. don't guess i will try it now that she is retired.

Never tried it, but did have an ornery old coot come in last year and try to sell me ads for a theater about 20 miles away. After I explained that I didn't feel it was the best value for our advertising dollar (tanners will not travel that far in my market) he looked me in the eye and told me that I must just not have any money to spend. I literally had to kick the clown out of the salon. I know, off topic a little, but I can still hear his voice sometimes...

I've had an placed in the "movie brochure" for about 1 year. The brochure lists all the movies, ratings, time playing, etc. The movie theatre shows 12 movies (huge place)and is approx. 2 miles away. I never had anyone say..."I saw your ad" but it gets my name out there. I figure most people will toss the newspaper after a day or two but people will hold onto a movie brochure for a few weeks. Our ad is in the top-left-hand-corner on the INSIDE. Key spot!

They guaranteed me exclusive ads for Tanning, which knocks out all hair/nail salons that have tanning. I locked into a decent price with a few months free because I paid in full. Hope this was helpful.

Kristina

p.s. I'd love to be on the Big Screen but can't afford it.

Planet Beach (franchise) has advertised before movies here in my city. They have also advertised on the banners outside of the movie theatre where the movies are listed. I noticed, because they are direct competition BUT did anyone else? Not sure though a few friends mentioned it.

I opened a new salon in march of this year, and I used the the movie theater advertising as part of my advertising program. I don't think there is a less expensive way to create awareness. I am located directly accross the street from the theater and they have 40,000 movie goes per month. We track every person that comes into the store and the ads have paid for themselves, however the trail comes from our other advertising that ties into the entire program.
Thanks
Chris

Funny that I came across this question today because last night I went to the movies and my friend suggested I look into the pre-show advertising. I haven't checked it out yet but I had an idea that might work for others too. State in your ad that they should bring in their ticket stub to get the discount. That way you know they saw the ad or at least someone else did and spread the word. Good Luck, Tammy

PS - saw the movie SIGNS and would recommend it.[ This Message was edited by: tcn813 on 2002-08-05 16:07 ]

Advertized with dicount offer with ticket stub for one year in two very busy Theaters close to my studio. The cost is cheap but the return is a big loser , would not recomend to any one. On top of that, the jerk that I bought the advertizing from wrote me a bad check that I have yet to collect.

Been there, done that, won't do it again!

We advertised in a 18 movie theatre. The offer was free service if they brought in the ticket stub.

Can't remember if it was a visit or a week, either way it didn't work! We did not receive one ticket stub. Now that doesn't mean someone didn't come in that may have say our ad but not enough for the money we spent.

By the way Mitzi, I may be able to help you with a simple tracking system. Email me and I will work on that for you.
