Question Half walls vs fully enclosed tanning rooms?

We are planning to build enclosed tanning rooms, but I was told my a Planet Beach Franchisee this would be a huge mistake and needed to go with half walls. Please share your experience and thoughts on this decision.

Enclosed rooms will trap the heat in the room and not let it escape. I would think that it would be best to have them open at the top so that the heat can escape the room.

Michelle, do you think heat would be an issue in the enclosed rooms if the beds had a/c running to them?

Leave 3'' at the top and crown around. Can't tell it's not full height and the 3" air gap will keep your beds supplied with air. You will have beds ducted out and A/C supply in each room, right?

I have 8' wall with open top all around salon, and never had a problem, but heat is alway a factor you cant keep up with the ac, when you are busy.

Re: Half walls vs fully enclosed tanning rooms?

Micha,

I have enclosed rooms with a supply duct, return duct and the exhaust duct for the bed. Also, i placed vents (one or two 8" x 16") in the wall down by the floor. No problems.

Never enclose the rooms. This type of thinking indicates that you may be making a great many mistakes due to lack of information. if you are not sure how to build out your salon you probably do not have a business model that will maximize income. Get a great deal more information before you move forward. Try and get it right the first time and you won't be back here in a year asking why your salon is failing.

We have supply duct, return duct and the exhaust duct for each bed and have decided not to go with the enclosed rooms for the tanning bed area. I appreciate everyones input, thank you!

Re: Half walls vs fully enclosed tanning rooms?

The downfall of open rooms is pervs standing on the beds with a camera phone. It hits the news almost every spring.

Did you ever tan in a Sunboard Xtt with an open ceiling?

Bed a/c is NOT designed to keep the room/salon cool..Half walls ARE NOT for the purpose of keeping client comfortable
